Teachers leave boy, 5, stranded in tree because of health and safety
Daily Mail ^ | 3/24/10 | staff

A boy of five was left stranded in a tree at school because of a bizarre health and safety policy - which banned teachers from helping him down. The mischievous pupil climbed the 20ft tree at the end of morning break and refused to come down. But instead of helping him, staff followed guidelines and retreated inside the school building to ‘observe from a distance’ so the child would not get ‘distracted and fall’.

Maybe a five day waiting period on trees would help.

That has to be one of the most hysterical things I’ve read today. Is this from the Onion?

Wow... the UK has finally plunged head first off the cliff.

If they had ever climbed a tree themselves they would know its harder coming down. The boy has a greater chance of falling than when he went up.

That’s modern day England. Remember last year when a British Fire Dept. wouldn’t run into a burning bldg. because it would place them at risk?

Churchill rolling over.

Not only is this school policy, evidently it is also police policy.

AND, at the end of the article, the Wiltshire Council, presumably the politicians in charge of things, also chime in and blame the woman for trespassing and disrespect.

Unbelievable.

The REST OF THE STORY is even more appalling:

The boy was only rescued after 45 minutes in the tree when passer-by Kim Barrett, 38, noticed the child and helped him down herself.

But instead of being thanked for her actions by the head teacher of the Manor School in Melksham, Wiltshire, she was reported to the police for trespassing.
.......
‘He was so young. He didn’t look frightened but he was completely on his own - there were no teachers or friends in the playground and the field was empty.

‘I walked past at 11.15am and he told me he had been hiding since the end of playtime because he didn’t want to go back into class.

‘Break ends at 10.30am so that means he had been in the tree for at least 45 minutes

If this boy were a tree-hugger, there would be plenty of folks willing to help him establish permanent residence.

Kids climbing trees, now that’s a crisis and needs intervention? Sheesh! I climbed trees, my siblings climbed trees, my friends climbed trees, and I let my kids climb trees. Bad mom! Bad mom!

I had a rule which frustrated my oldest child. No help into the tree and they needed to be sure to climb no farther than they could climb down. That frustrated the oldest because the middle child made it up the tree before she did. The oldest was so mad when I wouldn’t make the middle help her up.

Isn’t it amazing how quick it happened too? It’s like once the hall monitor (America) became the “cool parent” handing out beer to minors, the entire student body (the World) turned into rabid monkeys.

Less than 2 years and Barack Obama has succeeded in turning the world on its ear.

The kid should have made a gun using his fingers.

The teachers AND the principal would have come running, climbed the tree and carried the kid down, berating him the whole time.

On an episode of the Simpsons Bart was knocked out cold and needed mouth to mouth. Principle Skinner said that he couldn’t touch Bart because he was afraid of being sued by the parents. As one of the students came to help Bart Skinner screamed “No! I’ll take a dead child over a lawsuit anyday!”

It is worse than you think...read this article it will make you mad as hell...the police just stood around while a 5 year old girl drowned. They might have hurt themselves....

Can you imagine what would happen if Germany attacked England today....these PUSSIES would all be under their desk sucking on their thumbs crying for their mommies....

In 21st century PC Britain - foppish loosed bowelled fumbling hand ringing pussies.

How could these so-called ‘’MEN’’ just stand around while this little girl was drowning?

Where`s people like Lenny Skutnick when you need them??
If you remember Lenny jumped into a FROZEN river to rescue someond from a plane crash

That entire country has been turned into a bunch of limp wristed wimps. Churchill is spinning in his grave.

What a disgrace to British manhood.

Maybe they could have cut the tree down so he could step off the branch onto the ground? It would remove an obvious dangerous nuisance near the school.

Where is Benny Hill when you need him?

Isn’t that some kind of child abuse/neglect? I’m sure that if I left my child stuck in a tree, I’d be arrested.
