Praying in park puts man in jail for 9 days

A Christian who prayed in a public park with six other people is serving a nine-day jail sentence for disorderly conduct even though his case is under appeal and charges against the others were dismissed or overturned.

Julian Raven of Elmira, N.Y., said he was "surprised by police at his office," handcuffed and taken into custody this week, according to the Alliance Defense Fund, which is defending Raven.

"According to his wife, police escorted him out of a court hearing … in handcuffs in front of his crying children to begin serving his nine-day jail sentence," the organization said in a report.

"We are surprised at how eager the city was to arrest Mr. Raven again in light of his appeal. Now he will serve time in jail; however, we will continue to aggressively pursue his appeal in court," said Joel Oster, ADF senior legal counsel.

Las Vegas: Muslim men Complain About Being Questioned after praying in a parking lot
(LAS VEGAS NOW.com, March 5, 2010) via JIHAD WATCH.org ^ | March 8, 2010 | n/a
Posted on March 8, 2010 2:55:27 PM PST by Cindy

SNIPPET: “LAS VEGAS - Henderson Police are investigating some of their own officers regarding a complaint filed by a group of Muslim men who stopped to pray in a parking lot.

The incident happened in December. The Muslim men were passing through Las Vegas on a road trip. They stopped at a convenience store parking lot in Henderson to perform their sunset prayer. According to documents obtained by 8 News NOW, a concerned citizen called the police, saying seven Middle Eastern males were acting suspiciously by a gray minivan with California license plates. The caller reported several of the men were kissing the ground.

Read the Incident Report”

SNIPPET: “After almost 45 minutes, the Muslim men were on their way. They were not arrested or cited. They are now vowing to fight what they consider an unlawful stop.

Cue the obligatory mainstream media CAIR reference with no hint that CAIR is an unsavory Hamas-linked group that has opposed every anti-jihad effort ever devised by man:

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, has filed a formal complaint with the Henderson Police Department.”

I had a feeling it was “praying near homosexuals,” rather than “praying in the park,” that got the gentleman arrested. Sure enough ... bless his heart, maybe he even suggested one should repent.

Moyer then arrested the seven and reported it was because of concern that the homosexual festival participants might react with hostility to the Christians.

I can't quite get my head around this.

Peaceful people breaking no law are arrested because someone ELSE might make trouble?

OH, wait - they were CHRISTIANS!

Oh, okay then....

I swear, I'm going to get even further back into the woods. I can totally understand why people, over the ages, went off to live in a cave far from 'society.'

It's like the dustup with Ann Coulter in Canada: she couldn't speak because the people who hate her were violent.

What amazes me is that they have money for this type of crap. So what, everybody avoid this town for fear they jail you for something like this. If I was mayor, I would suggest we lay off court personnel and police officers if we have time and money for this type of prosecution. Amazing.

I have the feeling if they had rolled out prayer rugs and faced Mecca no one would have said a word.

But it’s different if MUSLIMS pray in public:

Muslim group says police detained 7 praying men

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_henderson_police_muslims

The nation’s largest Muslim advocacy organization filed a complaint with police in a Las Vegas suburb, saying seven Muslim men from southern California were detained and told they were acting suspiciously while praying in a shopping center parking lot.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations said Friday it filed the complaint this week against the Henderson Police Department because it did not understand what was suspicious about the men.

“Our main concern is the police department looking at praying and the way they looked as probable cause for investigating those men,” said CAIR spokeswoman Munira Syeda. “They did nothing illegal.”

Two police cars arrived as the men returned to their car and they were held for 40 minutes while three officers questioned them, checked their backgrounds and searched their car, Syeda said.

That crossed my mind too. Canada is far worse then we - (ahead of us a bit) on prosecuting for speech that a muzzie or liberal might be offended by.

It's becoming a very unfriendly world again for decent people. on the edge of anarchy...

A celebration of spring! Good thing she had her beltane knife with her, and how is it she convinced him to disrobe after she already stabbed him?

Everyone should check the link and read the whole story. Raven and six others went to a "gay pride" festival held by the city which was open to everyone, and prayed in the park. I am sick at heart and angry. It's okay - in fact, fostered and promoted by the city - to flaunt the most despicable, dangerous, depraved homosexual behavior in public, but illegal to pray quietly in the presence of debauchery.

How can this government continue?
