For the record, this corridor of I-95 within the hectic Washington-Richmond corridor, is one of the more storied, notoriously stressful on Earth, and it has been that way since it opened. It's just worsened with expansion. I have to put some blame on the original designers as they dovetailed more ancient roads like what today is known as 123 and all the odd-numbered spurs of U.S. 1. A lot of competing interests are in motion here, quite literally 24 hours a day.

On the now very rare occasion requiring a trip between Washington and Richmond, and all the history in the vicinity, I've gotten in the habit of taking old U.S. 1 beginning north of Richmond.

This highway is murder on vehicles trying to travel at less than fifteen miles above the posted speed-limit. You can count on being boxed in, front, aft, port and starboard by semis running at full tilt. It's breath-taking, even to hard-boiled experienced drivers.

All in all, I'd rather drive in Paris at night.

If we are thinking of the same incident, the passenger was struck several times but was wearing a bullet resistant vest, thus no injuries. You can see him flinch and double over during the encounter. The driver was not involved in the shooting. Don’t remember if the officer was hit.

i’ve met very few truckers that don’t believe “i’m bigger, i will crush you, get out of my way”

I’ve met very few truckers that DO believe “I’m bigger, I will crush you, get out of my way.”

Maybe 1 in 1000. Most are very safety conscious drivers trying to avoid the pinhead motorists who expect their trucks to brake like Porsches.

Most car-truck accidents are caused by the car.

maybe they breed ‘em different down there. truckers up here are the biggest pricks when driving.
my ex’s family are truckers, and have introduced me to many more who are all of the mentality that “your little four wheeler will do alot less damage to my truck, than it will do do you.”

Technically “missile” just means “flying object”. The Bible, for instance, refers to “the wicked one’s burning missiles”.

I've been seeing a lot of this in the last couple of weeks. It's spring break in Panama City and there are a lot of young males trying to impress their friends and doing really stupid things. Yesterday I was merging onto a six lane highway and a Corvette passed several cars on the right shoulder doing over 100 MPH.

I used to work with a guy who made it from Anaheim, CA to Santa Barbara in like an hour and a half DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR! That means he had to drive all the way across LA and burbs and probably 50-60 miles of open highway in that time. I was incredulous and asked how he did it. He said he just got on the right shoulder and floored it. I had to sit down after that.

That reminds me of a joke I heard. A guy tells his wife, "You've been with me through a lot of bad times. You were with me when our house burned down. You were with me when I had my heart attack. You were with me when I crashed my car. You were there when I broke my arm skiing. There's only one thing I can say, you're a jinx.

The punchline should be: "I'm divorcing you, I can't take any more of this!"

Road rage drivers tried to kill each other

Since it was consensual, what's the problem?

That’s about as nasty a stretch of road as there is in the greater Metro DC area. And you’re right, they’d kill you in a NY minute just to get a car length ahead. Not sure why they don’t just hop on VRE. I think I’d be homicidal or suicidal if I had to drive that every day.
