IOWA CITY, Iowa (AFP) US President Barack Obama Thursday launched a sales blitz for his historic health care reforms, as Democrats battled deep Republican anger to finish a set of fixes to the law.
Obama returned on Air Force One to Iowa, the cradle of his 2008 campaign, to proclaim he had made good on the political change he promised, by enacting reforms dreamed of by Democrats for generations, but never realized until now.
The president was also expected to take on Republicans as they seek to define the historic bill as a costly, big government power grab, in the run-up to mid-term elections in November in which Democrats fear heavy losses.
Obama was expecting a big crowd in the agricultural heartland state where he won the fabled nominating caucuses which ignited his presidential campaign and led him to eventual victory over his Democratic foe Hillary Clinton.
The health care legislation will extend medical coverage to an estimated 32 million Americans who currently lack it and bans insurance company abuses as well as mandating that all US citizens buy insurance or face fines.
Back in Washington, the fierce partisan schism which prevailed through the bitter year of politicking it took to pass the bill, deepened, as Republicans threw new blocking maneuvers to slow the health-care end game.
The opposition party forced a new House of Representatives vote on a package of fixes ..
The Senate was expected to complete its part around 2:00 pm (1800 GMT), sending the package to the House for approval before it can head to the president's desk to be signed into law.
"If they finish their work later today as planned, the House will take up the improvements bill with technical corrections this evening," said Democratic House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer.

sending the package
more like sealing the fate of a nation
as Rep. Dingell said. it’s about ‘control’.
.. and a lot of propaganda.
Oh, poor babies.
Keep talking BO/BS! You’ll be as successful as you were in Virgina, New Jersey and Massachusetts.

Dear Mr. President:
Even you can’t make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t.
Something is definitely wrong when he has to continue to sell this package even after it has been passed and signed into law.
Methink it is, as someone on tv said, an effort to thwart tea partiers and others in their plan to clean house this November.
A sales blitz for something that is mandatory is already law??
He is so low class-his cheer leading so shallow and staged, everyone just gets sick of it; I get truly repulsed.
He does NOT KNOW HOW TO BE GRACIOUS. He to only know how to suck in applause from planned audiences and relish visibly the adoration.
It is scary, truly offensive and such a huge waste of our tax dollars.
But then, liberals don't care.

He’s just a community organizer. All propaganda, all the time.
People need to lampoon Obama over this. The one thing Obama can not stand is being made fun of. Nobody likes a poor winner and poor winners are easy to make fun of. He really is Urkel.
I know.. Internal November numbers must be really bad..
Because really, most presidents go on a big sales pitch tour after they pass major legislation. You know, building support BEFORE you ram something through is so old fashioned. It’s so much more post-partison to enact it and then say “your stuck with it, so you might as well like it”.
How about a press conference where a (non-supplicant, if such a thing exists) press might ask him why he wasn’t willing to try and sell it before midnight engineering it through Congress?
That picture looks like an ugly tentacle of the government coming down on ya. Deserves a caption like... ???
So this is the “launch” of the sales blitz. We ignore the last year and the rejection by the people of the bill they passed.
No thank you.
This “sales blitz” is a necro thread. Know what I mean, my droogs?
Perhaps you can suggest a skit for Saturday Night Live.
It is phony and it shows.
It is wasteful and THAT SHOWS.
It is low class and so very, very creepy.
Liberals really like to live at the bottom for reasons only they understand (but I think it is because they melt in daylight).
Obama...so cute....trying to sell something...people already bought.....he he...who's gonna tell him?
Uh...Mr. President...you just signed the bill....uh what are you doing? Israel..uh jobs....economy.... HELLO...?
Why does a sales blitz need to be done? Waste of time.
I can’t but it would be funny.
Why does a sales blitz need to be done? Waste of time.
I wonder how many millions more of our money he’s going to spend on this dog of a bill that so few of us want?
After the “blitz”, he’ll need another vacation, possibly in Europe, to recover. I’m sure his entourage will be substantial. More money down the drain.
But one of the first things millions of Americans will see is an effective 40 percent tax hike on the over-the-counter medicines from an antihistamine such as Claritin for allergies, pain relief medicine such as Tylenol or Excedrin, Pedialyte to prevent their kids from becoming dehydrated when they are sick, and even prenatal vitamins if they are expecting another one.
Yep - exactly.
You know you’ve bought a lemon when the
salesman has to keep selling you after
you’ve bought it.
LMAO! You have it exactly right. Those living in fantasy land still haven’t figured out that even their shills in the media can’t distract us. The “grapevine” is alive and well. Nothing they can do will shift the national conversation.
Too bad we can’t do to Obama what the Aztec citizens did to Montezuma.
Ok, I’ll settle for the Mussolini method.
Narcissists hate being laughed at because they are all about controlling people to their will. If you mock him it means he’s not in control.
He has to continue to fly around the country trying to make his Crap Sandwich sound delicious.
This guy has to find an excuse to get on TV EVERY DAY.
It’s gotten to the point you have to watch TV w/ the MUTE button under your thumb.
just got a note from FReeper who is 85 (uses VA) and thinks it is great. He may not live to see what a disaster this is.. for him & others in his age/stage
A TERRORIST bent on Destroying AMERICA!
Why does he need to sell it? It has already been signed into law. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are doing this to distract us from something else....say, immigration reform?
I think we should all now demand Ipod reform, it’s just not fair some people have Ipads some people have Ipod touches and Iphones while there are millions of people just getting by with a nano or a shuffle and some people have no Ipod at all they listen to the radio. I think that people with expensive Ipods should pay more for them and pay extra taxes on the Itunes then we can give everyone a FREE Ipod.
As Rush said this morning....the damn bill passed. Why is the Kenyan Catastrophe trying to sell it all over?
FUBO! Go back to street hustling in Chicago!....You suck!
narcissists cannot stand to be made fun of...they cannot stand rejection. They also cannot stand to be ignored.
The article talks about Republican anger. That picture shows one angry black man.
What's wrong with this picture?
(Nothing new or surprising, just noting).
Obama didnt have to go to Iowa just to make this speech.
He just loves to ride in that Plane.
Everyone saluting him and stroking him, He probably sits in his chair in his private Air force One office whacking his tack, the whole trip.
WOW, if Obama could just get out there on TV a little more maybe people would be convinced.
.... what’s to sell ,,, He’s forced it on us !!!
While watching videos of himself.
