IOWA CITY, Iowa (AFP) – US President Barack Obama Thursday launched a sales blitz for his historic health care reforms, as Democrats battled deep Republican anger to finish a set of fixes to the law.
Obama returned on Air Force One to Iowa, the cradle of his 2008 campaign, to proclaim he had made good on the political change he promised, by enacting reforms dreamed of by Democrats for generations, but never realized until now.
The president was also expected to take on Republicans as they seek to define the historic bill as a costly, big government power grab, in the run-up to mid-term elections in November in which Democrats fear heavy losses.
Obama was expecting a big crowd in the agricultural heartland state where he won the fabled nominating caucuses which ignited his presidential campaign and led him to eventual victory over his Democratic foe Hillary Clinton.
The health care legislation will extend medical coverage to an estimated 32 million Americans who currently lack it and bans insurance company abuses as well as mandating that all US citizens buy insurance or face fines.
Back in Washington, the fierce partisan schism which prevailed through the bitter year of politicking it took to pass the bill, deepened, as Republicans threw new blocking maneuvers to slow the health-care end game.

The Senate was expected to complete its part around 2:00 pm (1800 GMT), sending the package to the House for approval before it can head to the president's desk to be signed into law.
"If they finish their work later today as planned, the House will take up the improvements bill with technical corrections this evening," said Democratic House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer.

After the “blitz”, he’ll need another vacation, possibly in Europe, to recover. I’m sure his entourage will be substantial. More money down the drain.
But one of the first things millions of Americans will “see” is an effective 40 percent tax hike on the over-the-counter medicines – from an antihistamine such as Claritin for allergies, pain relief medicine such as Tylenol or Excedrin, Pedialyte to prevent their kids from becoming dehydrated when they are sick, and even prenatal vitamins if they are expecting another one.

Why does he need to sell it? It has already been signed into law. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are doing this to distract us from something else....say, immigration reform?
I think we should all now demand Ipod reform, it’s just not fair some people have Ipads some people have Ipod touches and Iphones while there are millions of people just getting by with a nano or a shuffle and some people have no Ipod at all they listen to the radio. I think that people with expensive Ipods should pay more for them and pay extra taxes on the Itunes then we can give everyone a FREE Ipod.
