COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - More than 30 million people tan indoors every year. The government expects to generate almost three billion dollars over ten years by taxing each of them 10%. This tax is part of the new Health Care law.
"To have the government come in and just non-discriminately give us another tax like this is just one more blow. It is one more thing hurting our American dream," said Carla Plazas.
Plazas owns New Life Tanning in Columbus and has been in the indoor tanning business for 10 years. She has been following the Health Care legislation and she said this is just one more force working against her business.
For the health care law, tanning salons will have to start taxing July 1st, 2010.

Actually I believe the FDA today banned use for anyone under 18 years old and want warning stickers they contribute to skin cancer.

The bill also discriminates against light skinned people, with a 10% tax on tanning services...how racist can you get? How about a 10% tax on fried chicken to balance it out? Which is more harmful for your health?

Nah, there will probably a subsidy for those wishing to tan that make under 200% of the poverty level to help them pay the tax. Call it, uhmmmmm, let’s see....how about Temporary Federal Tanning Assistance. Come on, who could be against that? It’s temporary don’t you know.

I’ve been chuckling about my Valley Girl deadbeat fair-skinned niece, an Obamabot, who regularly fries on the tanning bed. Betcha she’s gonna hate paying extra out of her minimum wage paycheck.
Yesterday on Hugh Hewitt’s show he had a few callers who are tanning bed business owners. A 10% tax on these businesses will hurt their profitability which is not all that much. Pox on the DC Democrats and their allies.

Let's see... 3 billion over ten years is 300 million each year - which also happens to be 10% of 3 billion. They're saying that each year, 3 billion is spent on TANNING?
I don't know about you, but I think that's a tad on the high side.
The tanning salons will close and reopen as Radience Spa’s. The radient absorption will be a refreshing and healthful retreat into a meditative state.
The fact that the skin color is altered is merely a tertiary effect when compared to the Vitamin D production and mental state enhancement.
