“What I am about to tell you is something you’ve probably never heard, nor will ever read in history books. I believe that I am an eyewitness to history. I will not tell you that the German chancellor took Austria by tanks and guns. I will not distort history.

We Austrians elected him by a landslide – 98% of the vote. I’ve never read that in any American publication. Everyone thinks that the Germans rolled in with tanks and took Austria by force. Not at all.

In 1938, Austria was in deep depression. Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed. We had 25% inflation and 25% bank loan interest rates.

Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily.Young people were going from house to house begging for food. Not that they didn’t want to work; there simply weren’t any jobs. My mother was a kind Christian woman and believed in helping people in need. Every day we cooked a big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people – about 30 daily.

...Don’t put too much faith in guns, either. They don’t have to confiscate them. So long as they keep taking baby steps, most gun owners will never reach the point of open rebellion...

I've been saying for the past several years that if the Feds ever control health care then that's how they will get us to give up our guns.

They will declare guns in the household a health/safety issue and if you want to continue receiving health care you must get rid of them.

Of course, this is predicated on them ever finding out you have them but that will come.

Totalitarianism didn’t come quickly, it took 5 years after 1938 to realize full dictatorship

Austria was already a dictatorship. They hadn't had a democratic election since 1930. A good sketch of the story can be found here: http://www.scrapbookpages.com/austria/anschluss01.html

"As civil rulers, not having their duty to the people duly before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as the military forces which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow-citizens, the people are confirmed by the next article in their right to keep and bear their private arms." - Tenche Coxe (introduction to his discussion, and support, of the 2nd Amend) "Remarks on the First Part of the Amendments to the Federal Constitution" Philadelphia Federal Gazette, 18 June 1789, pg.2

Can we? Yes, We Can!

Will we? Probably not any time soon. I just hope we don't wait too long.

Wow...what a story she tells.

Too many people would say that was then and this is no way the same.

Oh yes it is the same....

We are living it.

I PRAY we can stop this madness come November. Otherwise, just pull up the toga and succumb.

To get a degree in German I had to take several courses in German literature. As late as the 1980’s their literature consisted not of “It can’t happen here,” but rather “how did we allow this to happen?” German authors and playwrights came up with a number of pointed works on the subject, my favorite was “Biedermann und die Branstifter.” (Biedermann and the Arsonists). It’s a story of the average bourgeois man who lets three thugs live in his upstairs apartment. They openly tell him they are going to burn down the entire town, and brazenly go about their plans out in the open. Biedermann (which roughly translates as “everyman”) blew them off; he didn’t believe they would actually do it.

They did; they blew up, burned and destroyed the entire town, including Biedermann’s home. And he wrung his hands about how he didn’t think it would happen.

It can happen here. Nobody is immune. When our police and military are given orders to round up the “violent opponents” of the regime, they will follow orders and carry them out. Don’t put your faith in the “Oathkeepers.” They will eventually be strung up. Just like Stauffenberg, after it’s far too late.

There may not be a “Russian Army” to worry about.

hehehe...in the short term we are overwhelmed by the mexican 'army'...patiently demanding that gov 'do something' which actually is their duty...

once the unemployment and welfare burden gets high enuff, the anchor babies will be the first ones in the oven...maybe 2nd behind white CHRISTians ???

The anchor babies will be the runs running the ovens. It’s the independent middle class that is up for extermination. This isn’t Nazism, it’s Communism. We are the kulaks.

It would seem we witnessed a ‘Putsch’ not so many years ago.. the joint effort between foreign interests , complicit domestic media and liberals has set us on the same path.

They promise FRee beer gardens and sausage for all..

but conveniently don’t tell you how the sausage will be made or who pays for it.

(insert old German beer drinking song here)

Party On!

No no no ... Anchor babies are what america NEEDS. It holds their parents at bay for fear of violent “persecution” and expulsion.

the Government will ALWAYS give the look that they are serious about Immigration. There will be countless tails of violent government agencies, La Migre vans with armed soldiers in them - rumors of people being slaughtered.

Because Fear is the weapon of the tyrant. Immigrants and Illegals are easy to keep under control of fear. And by having anchor babies on US Soil, their presence is always “on the edge”. They represent a complete demographic will not stand up against the tyrant, but WILL stand up against the Tyrant’s enemies (Christians, The Right, and armed populace.. etc)

The government will give the IDEA that they don’t want illegals here. The opposite is true : They want them here, and they want them to feel prone.

This, THIS - If you all walk away from this thread today, If you walk away from Free Republic today. THIS is the one line you should remember. This is the best thing written on here so far. It’s completely accurate : The Oathkeepers are a great order. It’s a noble idea. It will not work.

Even before the Anschluss, the Austrian Nazis were so nasty towards Jews, that even the German Nazis had to tell them to tone it down.

I think Obama and the leftist ‘rats see Hugo Chavez as the model to follow.

It won’t work here. There would be a civil war first, if, for example, they imposed virtual censorship as in Venezuela.

“In twenty years a major European country will be shoveling people into ovens by the trainload” you would have been thought a lunatic.

And correctly so .... because they didn't even produce the Wannsee Protocol until Dec. 1940 and begin their railroad-car gas-chamber experiments until the next year, and didn't get the Death Machine really cranked up until a couple of years after that.

But your point is well taken.

There were very few democracies in Europe at the time. Most countries were fascist in one way or the other.

The 20 round drums are heavy, but not too unwieldy. You are correct they are clumsier than the box mags.
