Train crashes through Chesapeake drawbridge gate, dangling engine

Chesapeake, Va. - An empty freight train crashed through a safety barrier at a raised drawbridge in Chesapeake this morning and the locomotive remains dangling over the Intercoastal Waterway.
A spokesman from the U.S. Coast Guard said the train spilled an estimated 1,700 gallons of diesel fuel into the water. The Coast Guard has closed the waterway while the spill is cleaned up.
Lt. Cmdr Robert Gore said crews are using about 2,000 feet of containment booms to contain the fuel.
Once the fuel is cleaned up the next problem will be getting the engine back on the tracks. Crews are not sure yet how that will be done and said one option would be to bring in a floating crane to lift the engine back onto the tracks. A final decision may not be made until tomorrow once engineers have finished examined the bridge.

I wonder what the crew of that train thinks of this report indicating that the train was "empty." Desperately wishing it was true, I'm sure. They're in big trouble, and alternative employment options are few and far between these days, even for people who *didn't* royally screw up at their last job.

Not only does the news report fail to mention the existence of any engineer.....the video doesn't breath a word about him either.
