Earth Hour Alert: at 8:30 PM (your time) turn on ALL your lights. In honor of Earth Hour, I am asking All willing Freepers to turn on All your lights, turn up your heat and turn on the a/c to cool it down, due a few loads of wash, start up every computer, make a few loaves of bread in the bread machine...if you have one, put a spot light in your yard. It is my understanding that the success or lack of it will be measured by how much electric wattage was used in that hour and satellite pictures of the earths darkness.

I don’t believe in Global Warming.
I don’t believe that turning our lights out for an hour will help save the planet.
But I don’t believe in needless waste either....

Update your Facebook status to remind people how technology helps their lives.
Also, a good thing to remind people of is that the power spike from everyone turning all their lights back on after Earth Hour uses more electricity than what they saved turning them off during that time. Sidney actually had a ‘brown out’ after one Earth Hour from the power spike.

Force of Darkness “Earth Hour” Challenged by Power of Light “Human Achievement Hour”
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2481138/posts
The Competitive Enterprise Institute, a leading free-market think tank, will celebrate the Second Annual “Human Achievement Hour” between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on Saturday, March 27, 2010.
“Earth Hour’s creators suggest that human inventions and technology are a problem, but we see the ability to create and innovate as the ultimate resource,” says Human Achievement Hour founder and CEI Policy Analyst Michelle Minton. “Environmental challenges will not be solved by turning off our lights and symbolically hiding in the dark,” Minton added. “If anything, we should be looking to technology and innovation to help solve environmental problems.”

Earth Hour Alert Reminder: 8:30 PM (your time) Your hour to shine, TURN ALL YOUR LIGHTS ON!
Heh. Turn on all your lights and electrical appliances, let the children play with the garage door opener; don't forget to leave the refrigerator door open for the entire hour. As a bonus, heat the kitchen with a 500 degree oven, and run the air conditioner at the same time. We can do it! Yes, we can!

We’re lit up light a Christmas tree:-)
On a related note - we spent today at a big scuba expo in NJ, as we’ve done for the past 7 years or so. Each year, there’s a children’s section where kids have drawn pictures related to oceans, fish, etc. This year, walking through that section, I was struck by the fact that virtually every drawing had to do with global warming & the imminent death of planet Earth. No more happy fish & dolphins - now it’s all gloom & despair. What a change, over the course of just a few years. An entire generation has been brainwashed. Sad.

Up here, at the edge of the treeline near the Arctic Circle, the sun will still be up and shining. Sunset is officially about 9:20 p.m. tonight.
I think I’ll still turn on the lights, though. Just to do my part.

8:39 central time, neighborhood action report: about half the houses with porch lights/coach lights ablazing; about half totally dark.
However, a good fraction of those in the dark are foreclosed victims of the Obameconomy, so I think the good guys are in the lead here.
