Americans get set for disaster day
BBC News ^ | March 26, 2010 | Madeleine Morris

If there was ever a major disaster in northern Virginia, Chuck Izzo's house is Greenville is where you would want to be. Tucked away in his pantry are enough tinned food and water to last for two months. In the basement an inverter hums quietly, charging batteries that could easily power most of his three-storey home's lights and appliances for nine hours. And for when that runs out, he has a wood-burning stove with a two-month supply of fuel pellets so he can cook and heat the whole house. Mr Izzo is a "prepper", one of a growing number of Americans who are preparing their homes and families to survive a major disaster they believe could arrive at any time. "We realise the frailty of infrastructure so if it fails, we're prepared to deal with a crisis like that," he explains. "It could be electricity, it could be a medical emergency. It could be something caused by a man-made disaster or a natural disaster."

A BTT. You can either be self-sufficient or you’re stuck hoping that the folks who are running Amtrak and the Post Office can feed you. Best of luck with that.

Especially when UN blue helmets stroll in your neighborhood...

You need to lower your x ring about 2 inches. It takes one heck of a bullet to penetrate a genuine kevlar helmet.

I have a Mosin, and a 2A Mk1 #3 Enfield, too. Both are reliable out to 150 yds with iron sights, are great for rifle PT, and yes, would make great clubs should I ever run out of ammo. But, being that both are in common military calibers, that's not likely.

Here's hoping I never shoot aything but targets, milk jugs and the occasional deer or elk with 'em.

“In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but the foolish man devours all he has.”
Proverbs 21:20

“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest”
Proverbs 6:6-8

“A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.”
Proverbs 27:12

Ad me to your ping list Lady!

"No problem! Whatever I don’t have on hand will be taken from a “blue helmet”..."

Especially if they're the Dutch faggots Gen. Sheehan was talking about in front of the Senate recently.

When I was growing up, people who had stashes of food and miscellaneous supplies on hand, just enough to last a couple few months were referred to as NEITHER survivalists nor preparedness folks -- such persons with extras as described in the BBC article were simply known as HOARDERS.

I had NO idea that today's HOARDERS are embarressed of being mistaken for survivalists. These people were in NO way prepared for a disaster, they simply were exhibiting classic traits of one version of obsessive compulsive disorder. Perhaps these OCD'rs are also embarressed about OCD????

One of the deals is though AFTER one of these weather episodes (like a week to a month) hit the local pawn shops.

You WILL find a generator there, and can probably get it on the cheap!

(just make sure it runs)

ONE thing I've never seen mentioned by preppers who follow OP SEC, is to make certain that if TSHTF big time, to make sure that you go to the grocery store along with Everybody Else and to make certain that while there you looked scared & nervous while you load up your cart.

LOL

Think of how neighbors will view those persons who did NOT run to the store to strip the shelves bare.... If civilization comes to a standstill for a full week, plenty of people will get very suspicious of anyone who doesn't appear to be freaking out.
