Matt Smith, the actor playing the new Doctor, was stopped at Heathrow airport because he was carrying a sonic screwdriver.
Officials took the 'Doctor Who' gadget for a weapon when a security scanner revealed what was in Smith's luggage, according to The Sun.
"But going through the X-ray scanner, it probably looks like a weapon, albeit something you'd see in Star Wars.

>> As a time lord, could he not just go back and back in his Checked luggage and start over... <<
I guess his TARDIS was broken....
Lots of jokes in here about it.
The TSA folks in the U.K. must only watch Big Brother if they don’t know what Dr. Who is.
And they dismantled K-9 and gave him a bin full of the parts.
Hmm... Perhaps this is a stunt to create interest in DW in the US, since its new season is about to start on BBC America in April.
Why would an actor be carrying around a special effects prop when a series isn’t filming?
You can’t cross your own timeline.
Next time, travel by TARDIS.
K-9!! What have they done to you???
Fair point. My guess is that he’s already sufficiently recognizable to big fans of the show that he’s asked to pose for pictures, somewhat “in character,” hence the prop.
Made with that delightful new Sonic Vodka?
>> Why would an actor be carrying around a special effects prop when a series isnt filming? <<
Because most of new Doctor Who Actors are fans of Doctor Who.

Matt Smith and the previous actor where both big fans of the show from what I understand. That and psoing for pics with crazed fans, LOL. Dr. Who is also a cultural phenomenon over in the U.K. as well.
The 5th season of DW starts on 3APR2010. It should be posted on YouTube by the end of the day in America.
what? no jelly babies?
Youtube is fairly strict about pulling that stuff. Though Dailymotion.com has tons of DW.
A recent favorite recent was David Tennant responding to “State your name, rank and intention”. with “Doctor, Doctor and Fun”.
Would you like a Jelly Baby?
Screaming Jelly Baby.
(Jelly Baby placed in molten Potassium Chlorate.)
Oh sure, security pulls the Doctor out of line for a check but lets the Daleks board without incident! Typical!
Ever try to get a Dalek through security? No wonder they have such anger-management issues.
They post it really fast on youtube. You just have to dig around for it. But I will wait for the BBC to show it here to see it with the kids..
damn I will never get my light sabre, tricorder and phazer thru airport security.
I hate the presentation on BBC America. It seems like there’s an ad every 45 seconds or so.
Good one. Made me laugh.
(says Zeugma, who has seen every Dr. Who ever made that hasn't been completely lost due to shoddy storage by the BBC)
Does a waitress on roller skates bring it to your car?
Watch out - The original weapons of mass destruction.
Speaking of shoddy storage at the BBC, did you know that we almost lost all of the Monty Python episodes because the BBC wanted to reuse the tapes they were recorded on? Unbelievable.
someone had a pic of a dalek alarm clock...
Or else they are big Tom Baker fans and don't put up with any false Doctors.
David Tennant..I will miss him as the Doctor. He was just so naturally quirky (and cute).
Sonic Screwdriver......Vodka, Orange Juice and Pop Rocks?
>> Or else they are big Tom Baker fans and don’t put up with any false Doctors. <<
What!!??? No love for Hartnell, Troughton or Pertwee?
I am a Pertwee fan here.
Interestingly enough, both Troughton and Pertww died in the U.S. while on holiday. Troughton died during a DW Convention.

See, see, if they were in the U.K. they wouldn’t have died because the NHS is superior. /S
The resulting creatures are a powerful race bent on universal conquest and domination, utterly without pity, compassion or remorse. Various storylines portray them as having had every emotion removed except hate, leaving them with a desire to purge the Universe of all non-Dalek life. Occasionally they are shown as experiencing other emotions, including fear, although such occurrences are rare.
And they delete it really fast, too!
New Doctor Who promo (pretty good)!
I just watched the first episode here in the UK! Woo hoo!
All first episodes with a new dr are a bit wonky - they have to fit all the new dr stuff into a regular episode. Tonights monster wasnt up to much, although there were some interesting aspects. I didnt think much of the new theme, but I did rate the new companion...amy pond is HOT. The new Tardis interior is pretty cool too...its ENORMOUS (twice as big as the old one). All in all, it looks promising :)
I am looking very forward to it! I’ll keep an eye out for it on YouTube.
Maybe a DW thread should be started today.
