Washington A father of a Marine killed in Iraq says he won't pay the legal fees of a protest group who picketed at his son's funeral in 2006 at least not until he hears from the US Supreme Court on the matter. Albert Snyder, whose son, Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, was killed in Iraq, learned Friday that a federal appeals court is requiring him to pay more than $16,000 in legal fees to the Westboro Baptist Church, a Christian fundamentalist group that demonstrates during military funerals to gain attention for its antigovernment, antihomosexual message. The group rallied at Matthew Snyders funeral in March 2006 in Westminster, Md., chanting antigay slogans and carrying signs such as Thank God for dead soldiers, says Albert Snyders attorney, Sean Summers.

This is heartbreaking.
Pray for this father and family. If you can find out more about him ... send him a check. This is beyond words ... This “church” is so full of HATE; it’s again, beyond civilized words to describe.
Interesting. Except for SOME supreme court decisions, articles of this type hardly ever provide the names of the judges on a given court, and they VERY rarely tell which way they “voted”.
This morning on Morning Joe (yes, I watch to see what the other side is saying) one of the guys (forget his name) said he would send $1,000 and Mika said she would match it. Good for them.
I saw the young man’s picture on Bill O’Reilly last night and he looked so young! Their Marine picture is taken when they are almost finished boot camp, and I was thinking of all they go through at boot camp, and he was probably so glad to be almost finished. And then you go to their graduation and it’s such a moving ceremony. To lose your son is horrible, but then to have these jokers showing up at your son’s funeral would be all I could do to not go ballistic!
As the father of both a Marine and a soldier, if I ever set eyes on these rancid pukes...(I guess I’d better take the Fifth).
$16,000? That’s chicken feed! They’re now suing the dad for #90,000!
Even though I disagree with him (BOR) on so many levels, he does put his money to good causes when it come to the troops.
God Bless you Bill.
It’s not tragic enough to lose a Marine son - but then to have these whited sepulchres wrapped in the American flag throwing offal on his memory?
And then to demand that the father pay the legal expenses for your unsought and sacrilegious activities?
I’ll send this father money, as well, if he loses altogether. And pray for him.

Bill O’Reilly really gets skewered on FR for some of his opinions, but he has said he is going to pay the full $16,000.00 and was encouraging people to donate money, giving the website address on his show.
Maybe someone should send them a dead fish.
I heard it too. So it must be true. LOL
I hope he keeps telling them to stick their evil decision that he pay them right up their wazoo,,,
When they come for him, people need to gather to prevent any arrest or eviction of this man. We all stand with him. It’s time to take this nation back. These ba$stards are supposed to fear us, not we them.
Go ahead judge, try to use force to make this marines father pay money to people who desecrated his sons funeral.
We the people *dare you*. Keep throwing those matches at the gas can. What will be the spark that sets up open defiance of the government despots??
Describing the the Westboro Baptist Church as a Christian fundamentalist group does a disservice to Baptists, Christians and fundamentalists.
No,, the answer is not to send money. The answer is that this man stands in front of the courthouse and tell them to stick it where the sun don’t shine. He needs to be backed by a LARGE angry crowd.
It’s not enough to satify the fine. This must be openly defied. And he should not be standing alone. Dare them to try to arrest a Marines father for not paying the people who desecrated his dear son’s funeral.
We can pay his legal fees and bond later. The feds would shrink from this fight.
This is the same bunch of nutters that goes around saying “God hates fags”. Even if these crack pots are not for gays in the military, what does this have to do with our fallen soldiers-—who do not have anything to do with that policy (either way). Mr. Snyder don’t hand over a dime to these a-holes.
What a brave man this Dad is.
Yes he is. And at any instant he needs it, he should not stand alone.
Seems that the legal argument is excellent. I can't see how the Circuit Court ruled that general free speech rights trumped this - unless you throw that whole liberal court thing into the mix...
How about he shows up with this scum’s thirty pieces of silver during services backed by good sized crowd of Patriots.
“How about he shows up with this scums thirty pieces of silver during services backed by good sized crowd of Patriots.”
Dude,,, wow. Powerful,,,,,
Westboro Baptist Church should have been invaded by FBI agents and indicted for sedition.
Splinter Cell Scientologist??
You are right, of course. I think we need a few large, angry mobs for a lot of occasions. I am sick and tired of these “elites” ruining OUR country!
Note how they hide behind children and women?
IIRC most of the nutters in this family managed to make it through law school. This looks to me like a scam to get money and attention.
I was reading on facebook... some of the lefty windbags are trying to tie this group in with the tea party ppl. Saying they ‘marched faithfully’ with the tea parties’ and there was tea party stuff all over the WBC website. Of course when called out for it... they claimed it was all taken down.
It is ridiculous but the left grabs on to it and spreads it around then the lazy and ignorant just accept it without looking further.
When I first saw your comment I thought you wrote “sphincter.” Of course, that suits the Phelps tribe to a T.
I would rather be drawn and quartered then burned for three days over a pile of hot coals than obey this POS “judge”.

The bad thing about is the WBC is what people like Obama think all Conservatives are like these yahoos. Or they try to associate us with these throwbacks. Guilt by association, an alinsky tactic.
WBC can go straight to hell for their sick twisted actions at the funerals of our service men and women.
I am glad BOR has helped out, I wish he would do more for the other troops stil alive and facing legal issues due to trying to do their jobs overseas.
I would think that the IRS might be interested in his financial affairs.
Let them chew on those facts for a bit! rofl
That does work as well - kudo’s to you
I had no idea. Thank you for that.
“Delectable” epics sounds like something Satan would invent.
You're right. Phelps supported Gore in his 1988 bid for the nomination, but by 1992 the bloom was pretty much off the rose and the Westboro freaks protested the Clinton-Gore ticket because of their position on gay rights. They also showed up at the funeral of Gore Sr.(Al's dad) and shouted, among other ugly things, "your dad's in hell". I'm guessing that today any sane person in politics, be their from the right or left, sanctions anything that the Phelps family does or says.
any sane person=no sane person
He’s getting all sorts of offers from people wanting to help pay the expenses. What they should to is put that money in escrow and make it clear that they’ll pay the fees if the Supreme Court upholds the lower court ruling. If they pay the money to the Phelps mob now, and if the Supreme Court overturns the appeal court and reinstates the original decision, then fat chance on ever getting that money back from the Phelps’.
Usually you don't think of Baptists as Democrats, do you?
Those Phelps people are nutz and should be treated accordingly.
