Georgia accused over Moscow Metro bombing

Tony Halpin

Relatives of Maxim Mareyev, a 20-year-old university student who was killed in Monday's suicide bombings

The head of Russia’s Security Council accused Georgia today of backing terrorism in the North Caucasus and said that it could be involved in the Moscow Metro bombing.

As Moscow held the first funerals for victims of the attack, Nikolai Patrushev alleged that members of Georgia’s special services had links with terrorist groups in the region and said that investigators would look for evidence of their involvement in the double suicide-bombing that killed 39 people on the Metro.

Mr Patrushev, the former director of the Federal Security Service, the successor to the Soviet-era KGB, singled out Georgia and its pro-Western President Mikheil Saakashvili after being asked in an interview about possible foreign involvement in the terror attack.

“All theories have to be checked. For example, there is Georgia and the leader of that state, Saakashvili, whose behaviour is unpredictable,” Mr Patrushev told the Kommersant newspaper.

That sounds like the beginning of a pretext for invasion at some point in the future... I would say...

If the Georgian government is backing terrorist attacks on civilians I say screw em. But I don’t think it was government backed or supported.

Muslim Chechens were responsible for the attack. Georgians are mostly Christian.

Putin is actually using the South Ossetian Muslims AGAINST Georgia. This is a load of nonsense. But he may see a chance to take another slice out of Georgia while Obama stands by and does nothing. And Hillary pushes her reset button.

Yep. Everyone knows it was Chechens but they want to cast aspersions at Georgia. Maybe they should invade Chechnya instead? Oh right.

We know that the FSB (formerly KGB) sets off bombs in Russia to blow up their own citizens:

This particular episode looks like the Chechens did it.

Carter is as bad as Zero, but I take Gingrich over Zero. This is really the case of choosing least bad option. There are many people out there in Dem front who can handle it better than Zero. Not that I approve their policy orientation. Still I believe that they won’t casually rattle known fault lines.

The Chechnyians have already claimed credit. Maybe the Russians are afraid to go into the mountains after the Muslims who are gloating over their new killling fields.(no schoolhouse kids this time)

It was FSB engineered bombing at Moscow apartments which propelled Putin to power.

With Obummer at the helm here in the U.S. and now with Ukranie squarley back in the Russian corner, Saakashvili has got to feel a little lonely
