Sarah Palin asks to be taken off invitation for Republican National Committee party
New York Daily News ^ | 04/01/2010 | David Saltonstall

Sarah Palin is refusing to be tied down by the Republican National Committee, days after the committee was found to have spent donors' money at an erotic, bondage-themed club.

The former Alaska governor has asked the RNC to remove her name from an official invite to a New Orleans fundraiser next week, even though she'll be in the Big Easy for a separate GOP event.

The one-time Republican vice presidential nominee "will not take part in any RNC fundraiser in New Orleans," an aide told Politico.com.

The apparent snub comes days after federal disclosure forms showed the RNC spent nearly $2,000 earlier this year at Voyeur, a high-end, West Hollywood club known for its nearly naked staffers and live S&M acts.

Aides to Palin insisted her refusal to appear at the New Orleans event had nothing to do with the Voyeur scandal.

But fallout from the GOP's risque business expense has continued to roil the party.

Many big givers are said to be re-directing their cash away from the RNC and its chairman, Michael Steele - who has been under fire for months for lavish spending - and toward the party's more austere Senate and House campaign funds.

Internally, the RNC also axed the staffer who led the expedition to Voyeur, Allison Meyers. It was Meyers who got the RNC to reimburse the GOP reveler stuck with the evening's $1,946 tab.

Meyers headed the RNC's Young Eagles program, a fundraising effort aimed at the under-45 crowd which has also been suspended in the wake of the scandal.

All Young Eagle events - including a swank steeplechase event in Virginia's horse country - have been cancelled pending a review, according to an e-mail from a top RNC official obtained by Politico.

"The DNC, unlike the RNC, does not conduct business at sex clubs with lesbian bondage themes."

Remember me?

The cure is that SP should have given a perfunctory endorsement and then stepped back, instead of coming out full force for McCain, doing fundraisers, etc. This is a no-win for her. If McCain wins (especially if it's by a small margin), conservatives (me included) will blame JD's defeat on her, and the alpha bull-RINO will return to the Senate to torment us for 6 more years. If McCain loses, it will diminish the value of her endorsement.

Of course, there are those who think SP can do no wrong. I'm not one of them.

I agree, although she’s closest to the political calculus and I presume she knows what she is doing.

We look at McCain and see RINO. Palin look’s at him and sees connections, doors opening and access. McCain’s wife is worth a fortune.

Palin is a lightweight walking a tightrope. On one hand trying to keep conservatives happy and on the other having to wade into the political swamp. I don’t know that we’ll find the perfect candidate, ever.

Few here would have voted for Ike, but he was a great President and it took a Reagan to outdo him in the 20th century.

she was asked last year to do a fundraiser by McCain because he knew that he was going to be in some sort of trouble as far as Last year, it was no secret to most because she said that she was going to do this the middle of last year and no one batted a eye....and she even told glenn beck that she had to keep her promise.....i dont like McCain but Sarah will get people in to pay the money just like Michele Bachmann staff for months tried to get Sarah up there in Minnesota and sucessfully did for next week. Sarah isnt going to diminish if McCain loses because despite it being rally for McCain, most came out to see Sarah not John according to the newspapers out there .........She is the star now and he is the lesser

I imagine if McCain wins the primary everybody will say that JD ran a bad campaign and that SP had nothing to do with sending this turd back for another 6 years of treachery.

Check out prices for tents at the Virginia Gold Cup. Does the RNC really need a presence at these races?

Way to go Geeks! - If you can’t do real sex, go watch the freaks, and charge it to the stupid donors.

Is there any hope for our party?

FYI:

The few Republicans consistently more liberal than McCain would be Chafee (formerly R-RI), Collins (R-ME), Snowe (R-ME) and Specter (R-PA).

Chafee and Sphincter are still Republican Senators? Is this called resurrection or what?

That’s the way I read it, too.

The Daily News is a liberal rag approaching Village Voice status. I wouldn’t use either to wipe my bum.
