(CNN) -- A Lebanese man charged with sorcery and sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia is scheduled to be beheaded on Friday, the man's lawyer said Wednesday.

May El Khansa, the attorney for Ali Hussain Sibat, told CNN that she and Sibat's family were informed about the upcoming execution. She said she heard from a source in Saudi Arabia with knowledge of the case and the proceedings that Saudi authorities "will carry out the execution."

The Saudi Ministry of Justice could not immediately be reached for comment on the matter.

El Khansa said she has appealed to Lebanon's prime minister, Saad Hariri, and president, Michel Suleiman, to stop the execution. Amnesty International, the human rights group, has called on Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah to block it as well.

That's gonna leave a mark.

And, what was the alleged "sorcery"?...

"Sibat is the former host of a popular call-in show that aired on Beirut-based satellite TV channel "Sheherazade." According to his lawyer, Sibat would predict the future on his show and give out advice to his audience."

Note to Oprah: Never visit Saudi Arabia.

So I guess they don’t allow “Harry Potter” in the land of sand?

This is no surprise! I lived in Saudi Arabia for seven years while my husband was head of Safety and Security as the New Jeddah International Airport was being built. One place we never visited on Friday (their holy day) was the souk in the center of Jeddah. They delighted in taking westerners and forcing them to watch the punishments. From beheading to removing a hand for stealing to stoning. Not a nice place to be! Their crime rate at that time was 2%! Easy to understand why!!!

It’s too bad that “Global Warming” is not considered “sorcery”...

Surely you’re familiar with the concept of the halftime spectacular.

Yes the halftime spectacular. Maybe the Olympiad will allow it if the Saudis pay the bills?

Here’s what will happen. If the condemned man is a real sorcerer, he will be able to escape by magic, or (better yet) put his head back on.

But if he is innocent, and has no magical powers, he will die.

It doesn’t seem right, but this is the way islamic justice works in that part of the world.

I was thinking, the convicted comitted sorcery by predicting the future accurately. In most of the world we would be pished if he was wrong. The Saudis got all pished because he was right. Sheesh!

He didn't even do his predictions or whatever in Saudi Arabia. It seems the Saudi religious police recognized him when he showed up in Mecca on some sort of Mooselimb religious pilgrimage. He just didn't know what a fan club he had developed!

"He didn't even do his predictions or whatever in Saudi Arabia."

Yeah, that's the key and is perhaps lost by some who have read the story. Even if there was "sorcery" (egads, what century is this?), there wasn't any sorcery in Saudi Arabia.

Islam is doomed.

I read that in the entrails of a terrorist who got in the way of a 120mm canister round back in ‘06.

To call them barbaric is to insult all fine, upstanding barbarians throughout history.

So referring to them as simple minded mohammedan cultist will have to serve.
