US abortion doctor killer gets life
Nine News ^ | April 2, 2010

A born-again Christian who said he killed a prominent US abortion doctor to save the lives of unborn babies has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 50 years.

Judge Warren Wilbert also sentenced Scott Roeder, 52, to an additional two years in prison for threatening two ushers who tried to stop him as he fled after shooting Doctor George Tiller to death in the foyer of a Kansas church last May.

Tiller, 67, was one of a handful of doctors in the United States to perform abortions into the third trimester of pregnancies and had been a lightning rod for anti-abortion foes, who nicknamed him "Tiller the baby killer".

His murder made national headlines in a country deeply divided over whether women should continue to have legal access to abortion.

It also shut down one of the few clinics in the country capable of performing complex and controversial late-term abortions.

Public defender Mark Rudy insisted that there were no aggravating factors to warrant the "Hard 50" for Roeder, who faced a minimum of 25 years in jail after being convicted of first degree murder.

Rudy said that abortion providers are not granted extra protection under state law, and that the case was not supposed to put the issue of abortion on trial.

A pro-lifer Scott Roeder, divided the country over the abortion issue.

At least his actions saved a few more unborn babies from having their brains sucked out.

As a Kansan I am glad to see Tiller gone but to murder him in cold blood in a church on a Sunday morning was wrong.

This guy deserves more then life but the justice system has determinded his sentence. So Life in Jail it is.

I read an article noting that the number of abortions were down in Kansas last year.

while i can empathize with Roeder’s feelings at the horror of Tiller, I will not justify his actions.
To say ‘at least his actions save a few more unborn babies” gives him a credit that is not deserved.

To in any way ‘appreciate’ what Roeder did not only harms the Pro-Life Cause, but leads us into a vengeful road to anarchy and vigilante justice. That is NOT where we want to go.

that does not prove any correlation to Killer’s murder.

It may be due to the positive efforts of the Right to Life movement that does not kill someone in cold blood. One of the most effective ways to deter abortions now is to make available sonograms to pregnant women. There are Pro Life groups now that offer pregnant women considering abortion a “coupon” for a free sonogram at participating right to life doctors/clinics.

Murdering someone after the murderer decides to be judge and jury is not the road I want to go down.

I will pray for Scott Roeder.

I will spit on Tiller’s grave.

a lot of antisocial types ‘go to church”...and that played right into Tiller’s thinking of himself as some noble helper of women...I’m not that surprised...After all, the Mafia types would go to church after they had gunned down people.

I don’t claim to have an answer. I just said the law has failed the innocent. It allows for
murder on demand, but it so allows criminal prosecution if someone else kills the unborn child. The law also allows for the defense of a third person.
There are lots of logical inconsistencies that Roe gave us.

The article that was posted a couple days ago did say it was a big factor since his clinic shut down. It was the largest drop in more than a decade.

What many on the left don’t seem to get is that ABORTION IS A CRIME AGAINST WOMEN, NOT FOR WOMEN.

Abortion robs every single woman of the natural instinct born in every woman, that is, bearing a child, raising a child, nurturing and loving a child. The woman’s traditional role has always been thus because it is what comes naturally to most if not all women. Abortion takes all that away. And even worse, abortion vould do permanent physical injury to women, not to mention any mental toll it might have as well. Abortion is a dangerous procedure at best. And abortion has consequences, some intended, most unintended both physically and mentally. Who is to say that an aborted fetus could have been the one that found the cure for cancer or the like. This is also part of the tragedy. The what might have been.

There must be some way to describe an abortionist besides abortion “doctor.” That’s such an evil use for what should be a noble word.

The most condemnation I can give Scott Roeder is that he shouldn’t have taken the law into his own hands. Since I believe that those who kill other human being essentially give up their humanity and any rights associated with being human, and Tiller threw away any humanity he had decades ago, it’s just hard to condemn Roeder.

Well, I wouldn’t have voted to convict. But that’s just me.
I could be wrong. I wouldn’t do it or advocate it. But what can I say? People are killing babies for a living and someone did something about it.

From the article”
“ KDHE reported that 121 abortions in Kansas were performed after the 21st week of pregnancy, or 63 percent fewer than the 323 procedures in 2008.

Sixty-seven late-term abortions were performed last year when the fetus was viable, compared to 192 in 2008.

KDHE said almost 9,500 abortions were performed in Kansas in 2009. The figure for 2008 was about 10,600.”

===================================================== The man was a killer.
