Both Maine Senators declined the White House's invitation to attend President Obama's event in their home state today, according to White House spokesman Bill Burton.
Burton said the Maine Republicans decided not to attend Obama's healthcare speech in Portland, Maine.
A spokeswoman for Snowe said the senator "had a full day of events already planned today long before we learned of the President's trip to Maine last Friday."
Meanwhile, Collins is overseas visiting U.S. Central Command in Qatar, and her office says it's not clear she was invited in the first place.
Of course, both Snowe and Collins opposed the healthcare legislation that Obama will be touting in his speech, so its understandable they wouldn't want to appear alongside him.

The Ladies from Maine stand tall against Obama.
Toxic Obama is on yet another of his Kiss of Death tours?
Trying to pick them off for Cap & Tax vote.
Don’t ya just love it!! Wonder what he will do to retaliate...
Manicure followed by a hairdresser appointment in the morning. The afternoon included a trip to the museum followed by a pedicure at night.
What the heck is Obama doing in Maine anyway?
I thought he was going to do a “hard pivot” to jobs, but all he talks about is HealthCare Reform, and that has been passed and signed by Obama. Obama is strange.
hmmmm...interesting. You can bet your last dollar that the internal polling for rinos must suck...even in rino country.
WOOHOO...our country might kick the commies out to the curb before the year is up!
“What the heck is Obama doing in Maine anyway?”
He is losing his base...lol!!
He got the vote...Why continue with the speeches...I don’t understand this...He’s not letting any of the past couple of weeks die down and that’s not to his advantage...Hmmm....
Trying to rub their nose in it by the invitation?
"Pay no attention to the devastating floods. Come and let me regale you with tales of my wonderful health care law."
You forgot one thing - this is bubble bath night!
He was in the neighborhood anyway to attend a couple of Dem fundraisers in Boston.
It must have killed their souls not to.
Why do you say that? I don’t think they like Obama . . . I really don’t.
“Pigeon sister” grow balls...
LOL No doubt!
Because they are both RINOs.
Crist has shown the way. Not even the most notorious RINO’s in the bluest of States will get anywhere near Obama.
It’s apparent that what he wanted was to humiliate them in front of the people in Maine. If you listened to his speech it was full of angry rhetoric against republicans, telling them if they want to repeal the bill to ‘get after it’...
He’s awfully cocky and smarta** behind that podium in a room full of astroturf.
Good for them! I hope they continue to hold fast.
Rest assured; their treasonist fannies will show up when Obama calls for the useless idiots.
Don’t forget they helped pass this horror.
Snowe was FOR this obamacare disaster before she was against it. I have her letter on my desk telling me how good it will be, if only she can get her tweaks in.
Is Maine still in America or is it Canada now?
Unfortunately, the border is moving South.
Obama’s extreme political agenda depends on getting at least one GOP vote in the Senate. That is why he is always wheedling Olympia Snow and Susan Collins.
In the article linked below from the Bangor Daily News, the "journalist" refers to Tea Partiers as "tea-baggers" no less than 3 times.
Where is the “hard pivot” to jobs?
Maine's had its snout buried deep in the federal trough for years.
I'll bet 99% of the adoring crowd cheering on Dear Leader in Portland was composed of public union members and brainwashed students.
I am impressed with their Senators.
They've removed the phrase from the article and put a limp-wristed explanation at the top.
"Thanks for your email. You probably won't be surprised to hear that you're not the only person to raise this issue with me today, and for good reason.
I certainly did not intend to insult anyone with my use of the term "tea baggers." I can recall the phrase being used by some Tea Party Movement activists who were attending the rally. And I can assure you that I was not aware of any sexual connotations of the phrase. But I should have been aware that others find it offensive and regard it as a derogatory term for members of the movement. In the world of journalism, ignorance is no excuse.
We have removed the use of the phrase from the online version of the article. We will also likely address or correct it in the print edition of tomorrow's paper.
As for your assertion that I have a "blatant bias," I work hard to make sure my coverage of political happenings here in Maine is fair, even-handed and non-biased. I would encourage you to read my other work (easily found by searching for "Kevin Miller" on the BDN's website) for evidence of my journalistic approach.
So thanks again. And I apologize for inadvertently offending you."
hmmm RINOs up to something?
When even Olympia Snowe won’t speak to you, Barack Obama is in a lot of trouble! He should have had Charlie Crist fly up to Maine instead.
