(Texas Governor Rick) Perry: Obama's health care plan is a disaster

President Barack Obama's signature on Congress's disastrous health care plan was a disappointment to everyone who values limited government, bipartisanship and quality and affordable health care.

In forcing the bill through, congressional leaders from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on down substituted their own desires and political goals for the good judgment and common sense of the people they represent. Indeed, the more the American people learned about the socialist proposals, the more they rejected them.

We've known for a while that the Obama administration and congressional leaders might eventually twist enough arms, broker enough backroom deals and bend enough procedural rules to pass the bill. Still, it's surprising that it's come to this, with the federal government unconstitutionally mandating the purchase of a specific product, and threatening those who don't abide with government fines. The bill represents a federal overreach unprecedented in scope, reaching into the lives of each and every person in America, with the staggering costs handed down to generations yet unborn.

The fight, however, is far from over.

We can't afford to accept this situation, and I mean that literally.

Oooh . . . I *like* that idea. In fact, let’s do it one better and offer to forgo all federal disaster assistance for hurricanes if Texas and its residents are exempted from all aspects of the Heath-Control Bill. It would be cheaper. For Texas and Texans, that is.

Of course, it's a "disaster," like all the other "visionary schemes" of those who purport to "do good" with other people's earnings.

One may not, as Sowell once stated, be able to "fault the vision," but the unintended consequences of such schemes leads away from liberty and toward enslavement to coercive government power. Wise citizens must recognize that politicians buy their power through promises of aid to the most vulnerable citizens.

Another thread today quotes Max Baucus's honest statements on the matter of redistribution of some people's earnings to others. My post on that thread reads:

America's liberty and prosperity for over 200 years was based on another idea, for the earnings of hardworking citizens were protected from the coercive hand of government by a written Constitution which did not allow the Baucuses of the world such "taking" power. Hear Samuel Adams:

The Statesman is a joke and it’s my hometown newspaper.

I imagine many in the Legislature want Obamacare and a Texas version. The Dems wanted the bailout and Gov Goodhair said no. Many are still p*ssed.

I only subscribe for the comics and the sports page. I almost never read the front page, and I avoid the editorials like the plague. (Though, they are a wonderful contrary indicator).

He states a lot of what Washington is doing to us, but he doesn’t present us with any options other than he is going to “push back”. If he thinks it’s such a disaster, why doesn’t he take the stand that, no matter what the cost, Texas will opt out of it. He unrealistically talked about secession at the Tea Party last year when that was what the crowd wanted to hear. We need our governor to take a real stand on this, not game it for political advantage. We need to let Austin know that losing a lawsuit against this won’t get them off the hook. We really expect them to do whatever is necessary to protect our freedom, or get out of the way for someone who can.

I agree, should the court ignore the limitations of the Constitution its time for us conservatives to make like the liberal states and ignore it.

I couldn’t help but note how it was the LIBERAL justices that ruled on that uses of the commercial clause to outlaw marijuana.

This is a fact that should not be lost on liberals, that their true friends the ones who will respect their rights are not the power mongering fools they elected in the Democratic party, they are not “liberals” but conservatives.

Now we conservatives must demonstrate that we are also willing to defend our rights by what ever means necessary and ignore an illegitimate Federal court just as the GOOD Justice Clarence Thomas point indicated when he said in his decent:
“If the majority is to be taken seriously, the Federal Government may now regulate quilting bees, clothes drives, and potluck suppers throughout the 50 States. This makes a mockery of Madison’s assurance to the people of New York that the “powers delegated” to the Federal Government are “few and defined”, while those of the States are “numerous and indefinite.””

No the Majority on the Federal Supreme court was not taken seriously just as they should not be. the Federal government has no such right!

Let us be thankful that Liberals out of perhaps misguided values in drugs have also demonstrated, perhaps inadvertently, the path towards our liberation.

Let the court earn our respect, let them learn to head the waring of Justice Clarence Thomas, in pronouncing their dictatorial and illegitimate judgments.

let us be determined to nully this illegitimate Health-care act by the Federal Government, just as liberal states have nullyed the illegitimate Federal drug laws.
