MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- U.S. Congressman Steve Cohen is drawing national attention for remarks he made about the tea party movement in a recent radio interview.

The Commercial Appeal reports that the two-term Democrat said the tea party - "without hoods and robes" - has shown an angry, hardcore side of America that's against diversity.

He made the comments Thursday night on The Young Turks, an Internet and satellite radio talk show.

Cohen went on to say tea party members have shown hostility toward anybody who isn't "a clone of George Wallace's fan club," and that he has seen no Republican standing up to appeal for reason.

Because they Tea Partiers are reasonable and the democrats are the ones that needed to stand for an appeal to reason on their spending and big government welfare.

Remind me again whick party had the white robes and hoods and has one of their former members sitting in the US Senate? I believe it was a Democrat organization because they controlled all the politics in the south in those days. Maybe this idiot needs a history lesson.

...as a matter of fact, I'm strongly for a diverse Free people. Your party is the party of slavery.

It makes absolutely no sense to continue to support big government when that government is going broke, even if you are dependent. Break your chains man, before it's too late.

The Left makes it clear who they most fear — those they most slander and most ridicule.

I was born and raised in Memphis. Like most all Jewish Democrats, Cohen has always been a jerk, playing the race card, while screwing the blacks in business dealings.

Oh yes, the race card. Typical dem move - use fear and hate against someone, but we are the ones that are against diversity.

We can’t let this stand this time. They know nothing about the Tea Party and they have no right to paint us as racists. Everyone should be writing to their local newspapers and calling the dems out on this stunt.

This is something that needs to be incorporated into the Tea Party protests - Maybe everyone needs to hold signs that says “who are the real racists? “ Boy this campaign against the tea party by using race just ticks me off.

Cohen who is Jewish faces a tough primary against a former mayor of Memphis who is black. He has to go against whitey just to survive.
