How Palin Became a Brand
NYT ^ | Sunday April 4, 2010 | David Carr

Posted on 04/04/2010 7:46:30 PM PDT by Bigtigermike

When Sarah Palin made her debut as the host of “Real American Stories” on Fox News on Thursday night, she described several triumphs of regular people over insurmountable odds, but she missed an obvious one: her own.

After her failed bid for the vice presidency, she was more or less told to head back to Alaska to serve out her term as governor — a kind of metaphorical kitchen.

Instead, she quit her day job and proceeded to become a one-woman national media empire, with the ratings and lucre to show for it.

With its tales of uplift and pluck, “Real American Stories” trades in the kind of easy sentimentality that provokes eye rolls among those of us who work in media while quickening the pulse and patriotic ardor of almost everyone else. At the beginning of the show, Ms. Palin promised that it would “reaffirm our pioneering spirit and unmatched generosity, here and around the world.”

And so it did, with two million people tuning in. It featured a young man with cerebral palsy who was inspired to walk by the love of a dog, a millionaire who financed the college educations of legions of underprivileged youngsters, and a soldier who died to save his brothers in arms.

“It’s not the kind of thing that’s going to excite you guys on the East Coast, but everyone else is dying to hear stories like these,” said one of her representatives who was not authorized to speak on the record but was authorized to slam the East Coast.

Ms. Palin’s politics can border atavistic, but beyond her Tea Party theatrics, she has tunneled her own route into the public consciousness and gone into the Sarah Palin Across America business. And what a business it is.

None of this crap should surprise anyone after one of the NYT’s own reporters let it slip that about 3/4’s of the people making decisions concerning what whould appear on the MSM’s various organs, whether in print or electronic are homosexuals.

They’re not called deviants just for fun.

They have turned their back on all righteousness, they hate God, they hate anything that is good.

“This more of an backhand slap at Sarah by saying that she is a great and sucessful but not a serious politician”

The MSM, which is just about as ignorant as it can be, has a serious case of denial as well. Come the sixth of November, 2012, they are going to get an education (you might call it a cram course) on what a “serious politician” she is. The results of the 2012 election will cure the lamestream media of their case of denial, but it will leave them with a hangover that will last (at least) eight years.

Ms. Palin didn’t go on the show to run for president as much as to become the next Oprah. And it seems to be working.

And this is the key two sentences in the article. The subtle message is, "Palin is doing well in the media, that is where she should stay."

The libs are really afraid of her ability to connect with people and are doing everything they can to run her down.

Just out of curiosity has the NYT ever referred to John McCain as a “failed presidential candidate”? Secondly, its really cute how they completely ignore the rol;e of the “ethical” lawsuits that were designed to defund the Palin family as being the chief reason she resigned.

More anti-Palin fear-mongering by the nation’s chief purveyor of the gushing Liberal screed. Hardcore Lefties, such as those at the NYT, hate Palin inasmuch as she embodies all that is - or was once - great about the nation; qualities which would certainly serve to reverse all the current trends transforming America into a latter-day version of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Yes, the writer is saying that her politics are old-fashioned and reactionary. For anyone at the NYT, tradition must be destroyed in order to bring in the rule of socialism and collectivism. Palin is a threat to the lies of the NYT, and they are indeed trying to discredit Palin. That is way the headline calls her a "Brand".

Here’s the thing: People like Sarah. The more they slam her, the better it is, because they are picking on a woman who is nice, and a middle class hardworking one at that.

The press are just proving what we always say about the media, that they are liberal propagandists, who are out of touch with the common people of this nation. They are trying to indoctrinate, not inform and we are not a dumb as they think we are!

"Ms. Palin’s politics can border atavistic, but beyond her Tea Party theatrics

Well, admittedly I had to look up "atavistic" and it means a "throwback", or old fashioned. I'd just about bet Mr. Carr took a trip through his Thesaurus to find it too.

For a media dinosaur on the ledge of extinction, the NYT and their writers are quite the smug bunch...but then, when wasn't there a liberal with double standards?

He took a couple of backhand slaps at Sarah, but she ducks and weaves pretty good; it's going to take more than this sissy britches David Carr to take Sarah down.

As for her "tea party theatrics", I know the Emmy Winning David Carr could outdo her without using his hands, but she's managed to amass millions of people who believe in the Constitution and Freedom to rise up and demand an end to government tyranny pretty well.

The funny part is, what David Carr sees as "theatrics", normal everyday Amricans see as a real person, not a phony like the elites in the media and in Washington. It is such a foreign concept to the likes of Carr, to him, it's got to be "acting".

While Sarah and her millions of TEA party movement admirers are busy fighting the impending demise of America, David Carr is burning the midnight oil, trying to find an angle his editor will like, so he will get a pat on the head and the nod to publish...his future is in the balance.

If the kenyan and his minions prevail, David will no doubt service him, er...write stories in his favor until the messiah's usefulness for him runs out...maybe then he'll try joining the TEA party express. Either way, he'll be out of a job eventually...dinosaurs go extinct.

She was “told”???
What a breathlessly ignorant piece of writing this is.

This idiot doesn't realize that Palin energized conservatives in a way that hasn't been seen since Reagan?

And then she would go back to the “kitchen”??

What a tool the writer is...
And an idiot sexist who can't stand to see a woman in a position of power.
Liberals hate the idea of a conservative woman getting real power. It doesn't jibe with their preconceived stereotypes of conservatives.
Another example of the rigid, narrow mindedness of liberals.

"but the fact that governance did not suit her — she resigned as governor back in July — has become a kind of credential.”

There was that yes, but then he then went on to counterbalance that with this:

Ms. Palin still gets a session in the media spanking machine every time she does anything, but the disapproval seems to further cement the support of her loyalists. Ms. Palin may or may not be qualified to represent America around the world, but she certainly represents vast swaths of the American public and has a lucrative new career to show for it.

If we don’t see why, then maybe we deserve the “lamestream media” label she likes to give us.”

You hardly ever get someone from the mainstream media usually go about admitting that they may in fact deserve that "lamestream media" label, for their unfair coverage of Sarah Palin or other conservatives, least of all in the strongly 0bamabot, anti-Sarah Palin New York Times. This is the New York Times we are talking about here, you are not going to get at least one shot at Sarah Palin in their article.

“isn’t there a Bible proverb that describes Sarah’s current situation? No matter how wicked the slander, she persists.”

Tonight I’ve been reading Tim LaHaye’s book, “Luke’s Story”.
Following the Story is the Biblical book of Luke. I just finished The Beatitudes, where you find this in Luke 6: 22-23:

Blessed are you when men hate you,
And when they exclude you,
And revile you, and cast out your name as evil,
For the Son of Man’s sake.

Rejoice in that day and leap for joy!
For indeed your reward is great in heaven,
For in like manner their
fathers did to the prophets.

Pick your term for the uberhaters of Sarah.

Homofascists, Homosexualists etc. etc.

Sandra Bernhard would be an example of such a person.

They are more than willing to allow her success at anything she attempts— other than politics. They mention how many books she has sold, the number of viewers of her TV show, the celebrity status she has achieved, but never a mention that she balanced budgets, rooted out corruption, reduced spending, put the oil companies straight, succeeded with energy plans that had failed for over 30 years, and left Alaska with a budget surplus. And they have never confronted their own failure to give Obama the same scrutiny that Sarah received from them.

For roughly a decade, including most of the 80s, Carr out-rocked some of the towns’ hardest rockers, writers, artists, and dopers, closing as many grimy bars as Charles Bukowski and ingesting more illegal narcotics than any Hunter S. Thompson-wannabe who ever lived to tell about it.

But things got rough. He divorced, cratered into crack addiction, and fathered twin daughters by a woman who exhibited some of the same problems as Carr. Almost simultaneous with the arrival of his daughters, and after failing three previous shots at treatment, Carr did a term at Eden House in Minneapolis, which is not exactly known for its Hazelden-style accommodations.

******

Maybe Sarah can include him in one of her stories. /s

I don't see that. To the extent that the troubles she had during the campaign were preventable, they were largely due to the McCain people who were controlling her, and who presented things as fait accompli which she was in no position to countermand.

I think that she would not relish the prospect of a repeat performance of that.

but knows she can’t do that anymore. She steals every scene she is in.

Well, Jesus spoke those words to his disciples, so it never occurred to me to have a problem with it. He knew they would suffer because of their service to Him. He goes on in the next verses to say, “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.” (Luke 6:27-29)

And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. (Luke 6:31) (Do unto others as you would have them do unto you...in another translation).

It’s a beautful chapter to read and apply.

I haven’t thought of our enemies as being this loving and selfless.

Those with evil hearts will try to twist the Lord’s word. I guess our job is to know the truth.
