Obama to Limit Potential Uses of Nuclear Weapons
Fox News / AP ^ | 4/6/2010 | AP / Fox News

Posted on 04/06/2010 8:40:33 AM PDT by EagleUSA

The Obama administration is locking up the country's nuclear weapons for all but the most "extreme circumstances," pledging in a new policy not to develop new nuclear weapons and to limit the use of the ones in storage -- even for self defense.

The new strategy stops short of declaring the United States will never be the first to launch a nuclear attack. But officials said the goal is to move toward a policy where the "sole purpose" of nuclear weapons is to deter or respond to a nuclear attack.

And Obama, in an interview with The New York Times, said his administration is committing not to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear states that are following international treaty agreements, even if they attack with biological or chemical weapons.

The most dangerous threat the United States has ever known resides in the white house.

I have no doubt about that right now.

I no longer will be shocked at how low this SOB will go.

Why not give away a few nuclear carriers while he is at it to show “good will”?

Seriously, I truly expect things like that now.
Of course it would take the form of cancelling future ships or early decomissioning.

Ozero seems intent on weakening this nation in all aspects.

I see there’s a bunch of people who think we’re going to “get hit” because of this. But, from what I’ve seen and from the Bush Administration, we’re going to “get hit” anyway, no matter what. I posted this in regards to getting hit by terrorists, in another thread ...

Well a couple of things here. First of all, the Bush Administration said it was a certainty that we are going to get hit with some major terrorist attack (either nuclear or biological or something major on the scale of 9/11 or greater). They said repeatedly it’s not a matter of “if” — but only a matter of “when”.

So, we know it’s going to happen. We just don’t know when it’s going to happen. And it’s just as likely that this scenario that President Bush was talking about is going to wipe out one or two major cities in the U.S.

Therefore, in any case, you should be prepared for that, no matter what the nuclear policy of the U.S. is.

Then the other thing is that the kind of attack that would be employed here (what the Bush Administration was talking about) wouldn’t be affected one way or another by our nuclear policy. The terrorists don’t have a “national identity” and many of them, are from countries all over Europe and even from here in the United States (many already being citizens of this country).

And the third thing to consider is that the same preventative measures that have been taken before are still being employed today by agencies concerned over these attacks. They’re still going to be working to prevent these terrorists attacks.

And then, fourthly if any “nation” takes us on and luanches any nuclear attack and/or biological attack, they’re going to be “toast” anyway — no matter what our policy says ... :-)

And lastly, if there is some major terrorist attack that disrupts the nation for a while FEMA does already have plans to go by, in order to get people to voting in elections very quickly. Those plans are already laid down and they will be followed as they’ve specified already.

Oh..., and one more thing... anyone who is President when being attacked and if it’s perceived it’s because of his lax policies — he’s toast anyway. It’s over for that President.

this is a reference to the UN non-proliferation treaty. in effect, this puts the UN in charge of US defense policy. if the UN suddenly decides that iran in "in compliance", then the US pledge would apply to them, PERIOD.

Referring to the policy of mutually assured deterence, Alfred Kahn said that the way to win a chicken race is to get into the car conspicuously drunk and throw the steering wheel out the window. Almost no one will call your bluff.

Rooster Hussein is showing his cards and his giving away his chips (to mix a metaphor). No one will take him seriously. It’s like Imadinerjacket is on a date with him (to mix another metaphor) and tells him “I’ll only put it in a little ways.” You’re still 100% pregnant.

Dale Carnegie said it best. “When you’re wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically.” GHWB screwed up big time on this count. When we won the Cold War, there’s no f’ing way we should have allowed the Soviets to dispose of their own nuclear materials, but GHWB let it happen.

Once nuke materials are out of the bag (this happened on GWHB’s watch), I’m not sure how this can be achieved, but if the FULL capabilities of the intelligence community are brought to bear on this, I’m sure progress could be made.

He was pretending,

just to get elected.

He is no longer pretending:

Read this and weep:

Obama was a MARXIST in college, and still is now today.

Here is an interview with a Dr. Drew, a fellow student at the time, and therefore it is from someone who knew him very very well: send to everyone you know if you wish to spread the (blocked) word:

http://www.newsrealblog.com/2010/02/13/marxist-obama-why-the-media-has-been-silent/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBGBszZ2Qw0

The full interview is devastating.

Too bad Fox News ignored Dr. Drew in 2008 when he contacted them.

We now know the details of Barry’s Occidental years.

He was an avowed and committed Marxist.

He looked forward to the revolution when the Marxists would overthrow our government.

His love for Marxism was unusually strong.

He looked forward to the revolution when the Marxists would overthrow our government.

His love for Marxism was unusually strong;

He was in passionate agreement with the most radical Marxist Leninist professors.

The difference is that you want to limit the number of potential attackers to the truly crazy (don't care that we really would wipe them out in retaliation) and not every "two bit tin pot dictator" that thinks they just might get away with a cheap shot and might live to tell about it.

It is the difference of understanding the true value of national defense (or personal defense, if you substitute martial arts and/or firearms for nukes.) Liberals never understand what everyone who has had to deal with real threats directly (military warfighters or kid trying to survive in a rough neighborhood), that FEAR is good, as long as it is the other guy that is fearful of you and not the other way around.

You were saying ...

Give it up. Deal with the present and its REALITIES.

Well..., you may not realize it, but that is the present reality.

The same reality that existed for the Bush Administration exists for the Obama Administration. The reality has not changed.

Any nation that sends missiles over to the U.S. to nuke it -- that nation won't exist the day after. It's that simple and those other nations know it. That reality is still the same now as it was then.

And in regards to the coming terrorist attack, that reality is the same for now, too. No "nuclear policy" has any bearing on them and won't stop them in the very least. They don't belong to "countries" and "nations" but to the religio-governmental idealogy of Islam.

Unless our nation is prepared to totally eliminate "Islam" off the face of this earth -- our nuclear policy will have absolutely no bearing on these kinds of terrorists.

That's the same reality that existed in the Bush Administration and exists in the Obama Administration.

No change in reality here... :-)

Time for us to glow i guess.

If it's another nation in the world that does that to us -- they will be "glowing" too, the day after, doncha know.

But, if it's a terrorist group, there's no nuclear policy that we have (or could have) that will be the least little deterrence to them. You'll have to deal with those groups outside of "nuclear policies" of this country.

If you're talking about "nations" that act against us -- that's the easiest deterrence of all. Nations are in one spot, they're easy to target and they will cease to exist if any of those nations attack with nuclear weapons.

I don't believe that there is a single dictator in the entire world, that exists, who doesn't know that their country would cease to exist, with them trying a nuclear attack on the United States...

That kind of deterrence is the simplest of them all.

The real problem here -- is the Islamic terrorist, who is stateless and comes with many nations' pedigrees, including Europe and even citizens of the United States. Those are the "characters" that nuclear deterrence does not work for...

I guess my post was too oblique for you. Of course nuke threat (at least conventional strategic targeting and tactical application of nuclear weapons don’t work against “state-less” (pan-global) terrorists.

My point is that deterrence keeps most of the state sponsored bad actors in check, letting you focus other means to deal with the rogue WOMD terrorists.

Now Zero just put a lot more players back on the potential attackers list, complicating our defense forces job significantly. When dealing with nuclear weapons, you want the other guys guessing, not you guessing what their intentions are.

To address your issue of rogue WOMD terrorists, the answer is simple (ask the Russians, Chinese or Israelis), you find what they do care about and make it clear that will vaporize before they see Allah.

Sometimes that implied threat to their vulnerability is not obvious, but appeasement always invites attack and usually by a pack of otherwise cowardly bullies.
