Pope's 'Revenge' As LA Gets Opus Dei Bishop [Pope's "Revenge" on Hollywood Sodomites!]

Pope's 'Revenge' As LA Gets Opus Dei Bishop A member of the radically-orthodox Catholic group Opus Dei has been appointed as the new Archbishop of Los Angeles.

By Simon Caldwell 06 Apr 2010

Archbishop Jose Gomez of San Antonio takes questions from the media at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Jose Gomez has been parachuted into the archdiocese of five million to try to lure the increasingly lapsing faithful of southern California back to Church. The appointment was described as the Pope's revenge on Hollywood for filming The Da Vinci Code. Benedict XVI's choice comes after Colombia Pictures depicted Opus Dei as a secret society of murderous monks who, according to author Dan Brown, were trying to cover up the truth of Jesus's secret affair with Mary Magdelene.

The appointment will give Opus Dei enormous influence in the American Church and Vatican, and is the most senior appointment for a member of the group. It will also lead to Mexican-born Gomez, formerly the Archbishop of San Antonio, Texas, becoming the first Latin American US cardinal, a position that will give him influence in Rome and the right to vote at a papal conclave.

The choice is likely to dismay the Catholics of Hollywood, which falls within the archdiocese. The reigning archbishop, Cardinal Roger Mahony, avoided confrontation, but Archbishop Gomez is less likely to duck controversy. Opus Dei, which he joined in 1978, is seen as one of the most devout of all the Catholic groups. Some of its priests practise self-flagellation while praying to the Virgin Mary and also wear a cilice – a spiked garter – to help them to mortify the flesh and avoid sexual sins.

I realize you’re trying to be funny with your subtitle, but I think it should be discouraged. The Pope has no interest whatsoever in “revenge”; his sole interest is in saving souls.

Hmmm. I’ll have to ask my b-i-l,the priest about this man! He was wondering who was going to get the position, and knew that whoever it was was going to get blamed for all the abuse cases the media covered up under Mahoney, because Mahoney was liberal, and one of theirs.

Well, the first thing he can do is sell that building downtown. The Taj Mahoney is as far away from a sacred space as you can get.

Let me make sure I’ve got this right ... when the pope was thinking about who he should select for this position, and the criteria by which the selection should be made, foremost in his mind were Opus Dei, Hollywood, Opus Dei, Dan Brown, and, um, Opus Dei. Have I got that right?

I can't get over how self important some people think that they are. They have to include themselves as people that are in the forefront of Pope Benedict XVI's thinking. Of course, The Pope is seriously considering the Pastoral care of souls and Satan and his helpers (Hollywood's scum) would be a consideration, so I guess that they probably do have that right!

more likely Mother Angelica’s revenge...Mahoney tried to remove her for criticizing her liberal theology, and had the Vatican “examine” her convent for irregularities because she dared to point out errors in one of his diocese teaching documents.

and of course, the real problem is all those abuse cases that Mahoney has been sitting on and blocking for years will now be investigated.... The press will figure out how to spin that against the Pope and gomez, not Mahoney of course...

Ah I am glad Mother will be delighted.

As homebounds (esp so this last month) EWTN and Our Priests visits with the Holy Eucharist has been the best gift in the world.

This is fantastic news!

Yep.

Wow maybe even Hollywood will be influenced into producing movies of virtues.

Just had an article posted here at FR about an Irish Actor who refuses to do sex/love scenes due to being married and a practicing Catholic.

How exciting!

I have seen over the years Catholic Cali Freepers really dissappointed in Mahoney and his liberal ways.

They must be over joyed about going to Mass with the new Cardinal.

Does attending Mass 4x a week count as “practicing”?

I went to its website. Can’t comment on architecture but the dumbed down nature of what’s going on there would even gag a Baptist. “God Shots” ?!?

If there’s a celebrity in Hollywood who attends Mass 4x/week, we’d love to know who it might be. Mel kinda blew his orthodoz Catholicism, so who’s left ?

Good on you. Wonderful, in fact. I can’t imagine a believing/practicing Catholic or Christian of any stripe surviving well in that environment.
