How many people work for the federal government?

As many as can be cajoled by their supervisors to keep those contractors busy!

Based on this we can make a prediction:

3rd largest workforce in the world: UK National Health Service (Chinese Army is #1)

I’ve received two census forms, correctly addressed to me. I filled them out and mailed them back the day I got them. No postage required (I checked!)

I still got a threatening letter!

I think everybody does.

It’s also important to count all the people who are employed full time by subcontractors who only do work for the federal government. There are many of these outfits.

Did that include postal workers? Most websites I came across did not include them in federal worker in their totals.

A better question: how do we reduce that number? Here’s how: http://pushbackuntil.com. We have to quit giving them so much money (or allowing them to borrow it)!

Nearly 21 million, federal (4,252,515, including military) and state & local (16,709,053) employees, out of 139 million in the "civilian non-farm workforce". 26 million of the civilian workforce aren't working (15 million of them "officially" unemployed). That leaves 92 million employed non-government workers. There are 110 million tax payers.

Postal employee pay comes from the sale of postage, and mailings, not from taxes collected by the federal gov’t like all other federal employees. It’s classed as a semi-private business. Still as successful as thes other semi-private concerns - Freddie Mac and Fannie May. /sarc

Yes, he added in 656,000 postal workers. Technically they no longer are government workers, but I don’t know what else they would be.

*How do we reduce the number?*

What departments of the federal government should be totally abolished?

Start with the Department of Education - fire them all. The Federal government has no business being in that business. Leave it to the states.
