Obtuse Rangel: Charlie seems to have forgotten his Sunday school lessons
Saturday, April 3rd 2010, 4:00 AM
These are rough days for Rep. Charlie Rangel. He talks and some amazing things burst forth from his mouth. None of them more astonishing and hilarious than his great big oopsie Friday.
There he was on Holy Thursday, the eve of the most solemn day of the Christian calendar, the day that marks the crucifixion of Christ after history's most notorious betrayal, that of Judas Iscariot.
At a political rally, union big Chris Shelton branded Rep. Mike McMahon of Staten Island a "Judas" for voting against President Obama's health care reform bill. It was, to put it delicately, an indelicate turn of phrase. Rangel stepped in to soften the blow.
"Judas was ultimately forgiven," said the congressman, who happens to be Catholic. "Judas became a saint, I think."
Not exactly. Not even close. Not unless Rangel knows something about God's infinite mercy and wisdom that is unknown to all others.
What is written and told and retold is that Judas, one of the 12 apostles, betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver and identified him to Pontius Pilate's soldiers with a kiss. Judas then met a tormented end. The Gospel of Matthew says he hanged himself. Acts says a horrible accident befell him.
Informed of his error, Rangel was overhead to say, "Oh my God! I'm backing off from meddling." Good thinking.
Doesn't that also kinda crush the third commandment?
CINO: “Christian In Name Only” (see also Obama, Stupek, Pelosi, Reid, ad nauseum)
Nah, he was talking to Obama at the time.
To liberals, betraying Jesus or His followers is deserving of sainthood.
Yes, he's the patron saint of lying, elitist, perfidious, pro-death, freedom-hating, self-loathing Democrats.
But no irony there at all...
Lots of publicity I'm sure./heavy sarc.
The U.S.S. America is floundering on the high seas, rudderless, and without a captain.
Please don’t tell me he went to Catholic schools too. Somebody needs to look into where he was catechized
Don’t forget Gore with his favorite verse, John 16:3.
The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man shall be betrayed: it were better for him, if that man had not been born.
(KJV)And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
For those of you that don’t know the history of Gore and John 16:3 :
During his presidental campaign Gore stated that his favorite Bible verse was John 16:3, And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
Gore meant to say, John 3:16. How little did Gore know that John 16:3 was more appropriate to be his favorite verse. Just further proof that God works in mysterious ways. LOL
