TOKYO (AP) -- A female knuckleball pitcher from Japan will be playing for a minor league team in the United States.

Eri Yoshida, an 18-year-old pitcher who played pro ball in Japan last year, signed with the Chico Outlaws of the Golden Baseball League. The team said she will report to spring training next month.

I'm offended by the name "Outlaws." What happens if a player slaps her on the behind? Will he be prosecuted? What happens is the local announcer says "She was bombed in a start"? Will he be punished? Oh, the PC ramifications. /sarc.

You do realize - of course - that none of this matters.

What really matters here are pictures. So we horn dogs can pronounce a verdict of “guilty” or “not guilty”.

And regardless of the verdict, we can soon expect Laz to be here to hit it.

What behind? She's probably flat as fresh tinfoil.

Change ‘on’ to ‘with’ and you’ll get closer to his meaning.

I like it! I liked Manon Rheaume and Ann Myers Drysdale too. Obviously women in the big leagues will always be limited to positions of skill rather than physicality— knuckleballer, hockey goalie, basketball guard— but if they can play with the big boys, I say go for it.

Post # 3 WAS a picture of this knuckle baller. The mods must have found her very, very guilty.

I'm surprised it took this long to happen. When pitchers can be as "athletic" as the likes of a Wilbur Wood then there is no reason that some woman hasn't been able to succeed from the mound, so to speak. Nice to see.

Promotional stunt by a D-class league.

The same thing has been done by a couple of bottom-feeding
minor league hockey teams who signed female goalies.

Probably signed her because they couldn’t get insurance
on a midget.

I think there was a lefty named Bill Scherrer, too, though he didn’t achieve the level of success of Quisenberry or Tekulve. Going back awhile, Ted Abernathy.

A knuckleballer still has to get it up to 70 mph or so. . IMO, she will last as long as Harry Reid does in the Senate.

Probably signed her because they couldn’t get insurance on a midget.

Also, the midget special interest and lobbying groups that can sue people and agitate to distraction aren't as powerful as the women's groups.

She was 0-2 in 11 appearances with a 4.03 ERA, giving up seven runs in 10 2-3 innings.

Though, I'm not so sure.

So, when do men get to join women’s softball leagues or other women’s sports leagues?

In most sports a player may play up a classification but not down. So, if a woman, with much less upper body strength and a shorter stride than most men, can play with the big boys it's OK by me. But men should not be permitted to crash a women's' league.

Can we not post Asssociated Press pictures? Is this a new rule?

Or what?

“Promotional stunt by a D-class league.”

Or maybe she’s pursuing a dream. And maybe she
had to leave Japan to achieve it. Even if she
never achieves the majors, she has the fortitude
and integrity to try. God bless her.

This looks to be independent league rather than true minor league ball, so it’s not like she’s on a stepping stone to the majors.
