"Having concluded that it would be in the best interests of the Court to have my successor appointed and confirmed well in advance of the commencements of the court's next term," Stevens stated in a letter to the president, "I shall retire from regular active service as an Associate Justice . . . effective the next day after the Court rises for the summer recess this year."

I will be practically ready to give up on the GOP if the Republicans in the Senate allow the Kenyan Usurper to select another Supreme Court justice. They need to be ready to filibuster this thing till 2013.

I seem to remember reading at one time tat Obama tried to filibuster Alito’s nomination and now that he is president this makes him the only US president to have done this. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander....

I know Gerald Ford was a “moderate” republican, but you’d think he would have appointed someone who would “occasionally” vote conservative on the court. Same with Souter. Republican presidents appointing far-left kooks. Don’t they EVER turn “conservative”?

Selection is a forgone conclusion. The only cards the pubbies have to play is in beating up on whatever piece of crap he dredges up. With any luck he/she/it may withdraw like judicial candidate Dawn Johnsen.
