The Polish Foreign Ministry confirmed that the president and his wife were aboard the plane that crashed Saturday near the city of Smolensk.

It will be interesting to hear what happened here. You would think the Presidential plane would be rather safe.

I’m not ruling anything in or out at this early stage. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Russians arranged for some sloppy ‘maintenance’ in Moscow before the plane took off.
Oh, wow! What a loss! I have often said that Poland is a beacon of light in a Europe darkening with socialism.
I share in the sadness over this news for his family, friends, and the Polish people.

of President and wife Maria crashed. They were travelling to Russia to commemorate the Katyn massacre. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katyn On board the were also the Governor of Poland Central Bank, the Polish army chief of staff and the Deputy Foreign Minisiter Andrzej Kremer.

The TU-154 aircraft, carrying Polish President Lech Kaczyński, his wife Maria Kaczyńska as well as Polish dignitaries, was about to land in Smolensk, Russia, when it hit crash landed and burst in flames.
President Kaczyński was travelling to Katyń on official duty.
According to press information, other passengers on the plane were NBP president Sławomir Skrzypek and IPN head Janusz Kurtyka.
UPDATE 1: As many as 87 people aboard the plane are dead.
UPDATE 2: The Governer of the Smolensk region has said that all the passengers aboard the plane are dead.
Fox ‘breaking news’ apparently refers only to breaking news during business hours. I turned to FNS at 4a, hoping for an update on the WV miners, but it was a rerun of the Baier show with C. Wallace. Nothing about the miners.
Their first coverage of this crash will probably be around 7am. (ok, so a slight exaggeration) Frankly, the possibilities about this crash scare me to death.

There was a lot of noise around this visit and friction between Poland and Russia over Katyn where the Russians murdered the entire Polish officer corps.
At the Katyn Massacre, the Russians massacred more than 22,000 Polish officers in cold blood. For years they tried to blame it on the Germans, but everyone knew.
Putin still refuses to apologize for it.
Fox news dropped it.
Sky News only has a banner telling us less than this thread does.

A tragic loss. I trust no one and suspect everyone including Russia. They are foaming at the mouth since they have the Kenyan appeaser kissing their as*es and weakening the US.
