Our Lawless Mexican Border
The Wall Street Journal ^ | April 9, 2010 | Leo W. Banks

Posted on 04/10/2010 6:23:01 AM PDT by Tammy8

A great sadness will descend over this border town today as mourners fill the local high school gym to pay their respects to Rob Krentz. Two weeks ago, the 58-year-old rancher was shot and killed by what appears to be a drug smuggler. His death has created a tidal wave of emotion—Krentz was a pillar of this community where his family has ranched land here for a century. "The sobbing and crying from people I never thought I'd see cry, it's unbelievable," local veterinarian Gary Thrasher told me.

Americans who do not live along the Mexican border often assume the antipathy to illegal immigration arises from racial or cultural concerns. But talk to people on the ground, and what they fear most is the loss of personal security. They are angry that the federal government is unable to provide them with this most basic of human rights.

Last year the Border Patrol made an astonishing 241,673 arrests in the Tucson Sector, which covers 262 miles. Arrests in Douglas are up 25% this year—in part because tighter security elsewhere has funneled traffic through this remote region. Border agents say that 17% of the people they arrest in the sector have U.S. criminal records.

New Mexico does have some National Guard here. They are mainly at observation areas. I have seen at least 1 NG helicopter patrolling for about the last week.

For and unending supply of stories about illegals killing Americans (among other stories) visit Outraged Patriots.com. Send them a few bucks too, if you can.

I think what we have here is augmentees- now you see them, now you don’t- hubby came home from El Paso last night and saw a few next to the highway with the Border Patrol. I think there is only a handful of NG on the ground and a NG helicopter here. That is likely why Richardson refuses to answer reporters when they ask him how many NG are here.

That pretty much covers it..well unless you want to also include:
The Whitehouse is packed with avowed communists
War has been declared on babies
Depravity is being promoted from the top
The Nation has been declared a non-Christian nation
The war on terrorism is no longer ‘a war on terrorism’
Criminals have been placed in top positions
War is being waged all that is good and decent

We've skipped socialism and heading for complete totalitarianism at full speed.

STATE GOVERNMENTS ARE BROKE AND THEY CAN’T PRINT MONEY!

The Democrats’ Utopian vision has caused border insecurity.

Reactivate the draft

Nope! That is a Dem idea, involuntary servitude.

Enlarge the military for this purpose, I could accept that.

Or establish a State militia that is volunteer and unpaid. That could also be done. Locals near the border might surprise you at their resourcefulness.

A couple of dozen Texas Rangers leading a local contingency could have an impact.

I have not seen any drones, I have never seen drones in this area. We do have one of the observation balloons that is South of Deming and not too far from here. The problem with it is it doesn’t work in the wind which we have a lot of here so it is grounded often. At one time the plan was to have observation balloons cover the entire border with surveillance but for some reason that project never was finished.

“Nope! That is a Dem idea, involuntary servitude.”

U.S. conscription goes back to the civil war. I believe a republican of the name Lincoln was POTUS at the time. But, regardless, a little involuntary servitude would do the body good for our teens.

Fact: Both sides in Civil War conscripted.

In my lifetime the only Wars that had a draft were Korea & Vietnam.

During Vietnam War, Dems were in power. JFK initiated, “landslide” Lyndon Johnson escillated. Both Dems.

Involuntary servitude is a Dem thing.

“Involuntary servitude is a Dem thing.”

Wrong. Btw, what does what happened in your lifetime have to do with this subject? Don’t you know how to read? I am beginning to think not. And, btw #2, you should change your handle as you are giving seasoned citizens a bad name for you inability to grasp facts.

Few seem to get it. This open borders destruction of the U.S. is no accident...This is all being sponsored, backed and aided and abetted by the U.S. government, and has been for all through the Bush years.

Mexico Extradites

Mexico, D.F.-The Government of Mexico extradited a record 307 criminals to foreign countries in the last three years. They were wanted in foreign jurisdictions for engaging in crimes involving the narcotics trade, sex offenses and homicides. This announcement came from the Secretary of Foreign Relations of the Federal Attorney General’s Office. Under the Extradition Treaty with the United States, 291 criminals were extradited to the Unites States to stand trial in U.S. Courts. There were 16 individuals extradited to El Salvador and South American countries.

This is only part of the strategy of the Government of Mexico and other countries to combat organized crime and means that there is no immunity granted to criminals. Some thirty-three of those extradited were cases alleging sexual crimes against minors, eighteen were for murder, six were for money laundering, four for violent robbery and three for kidnapping.

Intelligence on narcotics trafficking lacking

Nuevo Leon-“The battle against narcotics trafficking requires a good intelligence program, not more powerful firearms,” said Ex-U.S. Secretary of State, Colin Powell, in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.

“The first priority, in whatever type of military or anti-drug campaign, is to have intelligence so we know who we are looking for,” said Powell in a press conference at the University of Monterrey. “We need to understand who they are, how they operate, how they move money, how they are recruiting young people and it is not merely a matter of having a war in the streets, and it is not a matter of having more powerful weapons than they have,” said Powell. “The United States has not performed well in the battle against narcotics trafficking. The United States has the greatest number of addicts and is the major consumer of illicit drugs in the world,” according to Powell.

Powell discounted reports that Mexico is a failed state and said that Mexico faces a major challenge. Powell applauded President Calderon’s strategy to confront narcotics trafficking but concluded that the United States has the greatest demand (for drugs) and is the major source of arms (used by the cartels).
