One of the nation's biggest labor unions, a major backer of President Obama, is condemning his Department of Homeland Security's immigration enforcement practices, protesting the use of deportation quotas for agents and expanded workplace audits.
Eliseo Medina, international executive vice president of Service Employees International Union, said SEIU members want DHS "to stop these crazy, irrational policies," while seeking to turn up pressure on Congress to take up overhaul legislation. SEIU is holding vigils and demonstrations Thursday in Oakland and Sacramento, Calif., and then in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Boston, New York City and Minneapolis Friday.
Combined with recent disclosures that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is changing how it evaluates agents to emphasize caseload quotas and is widening whom it targets for deportation to sustain high removal statistics, Medina said the reality of DHS's actions is not matching the administration's rhetoric.
"They said they were going after criminals. They need to do that. They said they were going after bad actor employers to take away the profit motive. They need to do that. But instead, they are still going after meatpackers, janitors and cooks," Medina said.
"There has been a failure with this strategy, and so there's a lot of anger within our union, because we look at and see the everyday impact of these policies, and it's the complete opposite of what they said they were going to do," Medina said.
In related news, frustrated with Democrats, the SEIU is starting a new third party in North Carolina.

So the president has not come forward with a proposal for immigration reform. (Sens. Charles) Schumer and (Lindsey) Graham have talked about parameters for them, and other people have. But one of the reasons why he hasn't is because the unions don't want a legal temporary worker program. "
Just proves that the SEIU is not a labor union but a marxist political movement.
It almost makes me wish Obozo would nominate Jenny Granholm to the supreme court so she could be questioned about why she gave them a 2 million dollar tax break.
unbelievably, it is NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
""to stop these crazy, irrational policies,"
Enforcing the law is a 'crazy policy'?????
We’re going to have to fire up the phone lines and faxes again with this IF they dare try to pass it for their union buddies.
Compared to McCain, Kerry was almost truthful. I despise the very ground McCain walks on. If I could do it, I would jail him for sedition.
Such a mess — the corruption, the lawbreakers, the taxation upon Americans, the demographic destruction of America, the welfare load, the crime, the prison loading.....gee, BO has something to think about. All this versus his army of thugs....hey BO, NOBODY in America wants these potential DemoRAT voters in our country. Let me count the reasons....
A reminder that "overhaul" = amnesty.

Obama Thugs, SEIU, now pushing AMNESTY! Ciudad Juarez most violent city in world!
Immigration...healthcare...ALL the same enforcers....
SEIU & AARP....FYI
AARP does not operate a PAC, but its employees gave candidates, committees and parties $53,200, with Democrats receiving 90 percent of that.
SEIU & AARP...joined at the hip and helping write amnesty/healthcare legislation. AARP uses your dollars to fund the likes of:
MALDEF - Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund
AARP says: Anybody who looks at immigration has to look at aging, says Harry R. Moody, director of academic affairs at AARP. First, immigration affects the age structure of society by adding younger members to the population, he says. Second, the people who do hands-on care work are immigrants. Look at our nursing homes! We have an image of people picking tomatoes thats not the whole story. Immigrants are the front-line caregivers.

AARP also contributes to LULAC
And from AARPs Latino magazine....
Meet AARPs New CEO: A. Barry Rand
A. Barry Rand, chairman of the Board of Trustees at Howard University and a nationally recognized agent for social change, has been tapped as AARPs new chief executive officer. He will become the organizations first African American CEO when he assumes the position in April.
AARP Welcomes Jacob Lozada
AARP Board member Jacob Lozada gives AARP Segunda Juventud readers his perspective on issues facing U.S. Hispanics and how he hopes to boost AARPs profile in his native Puerto Rico.
AND AARP works hand in hand with the SEIU. They are the ones formulating the legislation that the dems are pushing.
AARP, Business Roundtable and SEIU, which together represent more than 50 million Americans, today took another groundbreaking step for their Divided We Fail group by jointly delivering endorsed principles for health information technology (IT) legislation to Congress.
SEIU is a criminal organization.
...... as if California doesn’t have enough problems .
Why do we allow our entire nation to be held to ransom by a thuggish union whose members are mostly illegals? How have we come to this sorry pass?
“Why do we allow our entire nation to be held to ransom by a thuggish union whose members are mostly illegals? How have we come to this sorry pass?”
It’s all about the people we elect. On BOTH sides of the isle. Or in McCain’s case, sitting in the isle.
Which raises another question: How come we elect such people? Have we become a nation of mostly morons?
“Which raises another question: How come we elect such people? Have we become a nation of mostly morons?”
We have an electorate who votes on soundbites, not voting records of politicians. We have an ignorant electorate who buy the lies, like McCain’s on his website that says he’s against amnesty.
Poll: Voters Unaware of Candidates Immigration Positions; McCain Supporters Farthest Off the Mark
A new poll using neutral language finds that primary and caucus voters have little knowledge of candidates immigration positions. The results also show that voters often do not share their candidates position.
Among the findings:
* Only 34 percent of McCain voters, 42 percent of Clinton voters, and 52 percent of Obama voters correctly identified their candidate as favoring eventual citizenship for illegal immigrants who meet certain requirements.
* Of McCain voters, 35 percent mistakenly thought he favored enforcement that would cause illegals to return home, another 10 percent thought he wanted mass deportations, and 21 percent didnt know his position.
* Voters often held different positions from the candidate they supported. Only 31 percent of McCain voters had the same immigration position as he does. For Clinton voters, 45 percent shared her position; 61 percent of Obama voters shared his position
* This lack of knowledge, coupled with disagreements with their candidates positions, makes it very difficult to draw any conclusions about the fact that all three remaining candidates favor legalization for illegal immigrants
And Bart Stupak is pro-life.
SEIU members: Too stupid and drunk to even realize it.
McCain actually said this just a few days ago.
President Reagan granted amnesty to two million people and that was wrong, McCain said.
Same goes for African-Americans ... out of work... take a number
