Hate-(Antigovernment extremists are on the rise—and on the march)-(BARF ALERT!)
Newsweek ^ | April 9, 2010 | Evan Thomas and Eve Conant

Stewart Rhodes does not seem like an extremist. He is a graduate of Yale Law School and a former U.S. Army paratrooper and congressional staffer. He is not at all secretive. In February he was sitting at a table at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) at a fancy downtown hotel in Washington, handing out fliers and selling T shirts for his organization, the Oath Keepers. Rhodes says he has 6,000 dues-paying members, active and retired police and military, who promise never to take orders to disarm U.S. citizens or herd them into concentration camps. Rhodes told a NEWSWEEK reporter, "We're not a militia." Oath Keepers do not run around the woods on the weekend shooting weapons or threatening the violent overthrow of the government. Their oath is to uphold the Constitution and defend the American people from dictatorship.

"But by conjuring up the specter of revolution—or counterrevolution—is Rhodes adding to the threat of real violence? Oath Keepers are "a particularly worrisome example of the 'patriot' revival," according to Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which monitors hate speech and extremist organizations. "Patriot" groups—described by the SPLC as outfits "that see the federal government as part of a plot to impose 'one-world government' on liberty-loving Americans"—are "roaring back" after years out of the limelight, according to Potok. Notorious in the aftermath of the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, the patriot groups seemed to fade away under the shadow of 9/11, but hard times and the nation's first African-American president seem to have brought about a revival—from 149 groups in 2008 to 512 (127 of them militias) in 2009, according to the SPLC."

Hey Newsweek most of us who actually think for themselves are very concerned about a facist socialist takeover of our country!

The SPLC itself is an extremist organization and
perhaps the largest domestic intelligence gathering group
in the country.

Evan Thomas’ grandfather was the Socialist presidential candidate for years.
The rotten apple didn’t fall too far from that cankerous tree.

Evan Thomas, author of the article and an editor at Newsweek, is the grandson of Norman Thomas, Socialist candidate for Prez in the ‘40s and a founder of the ACLU.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree...

Leftists fear the overthrow of their fledgling socialist utopia. To think that this free nation has ventured so far from what the Founding Fathers risked all for. Now, talk of a "revolution" by freedom loving citizens to bring the country back to its founding principles of liberty is considered to be violent, hate-filled extremists that must be monitored and quelled.

Tea Party, Oath Keepers, etc., are not fringe element wing-nuts. They are literally millions of concerned American citizens speaking out and making a stand.

The first is an absolutely true statement, that the SPLC is an extremist organization. The only support I saw in the article for it’s theses was the quote from the Southern Poverty Law Center — and the quote is a statement of opinion. The whole article is a joke for anyone that knows what the SPLC is.

Shocking that they have got away with this kind of nonsense in main stream media articles . . . for the LAST 80 YEARS.

Today's extremists are yesterdays debaters - people who readily understood there are usually two sides to an issue, even three or four or five. Today's extremist is anyone who disagrees with Obama: his Unions, and his radical shadow government and those closest to him, and the MSM will immediately slam the person/organization who dares to dissent.

Sarah Palin would have been the poster gal for WWII or the early feminist...however, showing her mettle today lets loose foul invectives of the worse kind regardless of gender.

I think Sarah shows a grand femininity - so unlike the infamous NOW gang and other empty feminist organizations. She has succeeded in uniting conservatives across the country...not members of parties, just plain old Americans who feel and are oppressed by the un-American Progressives...the enemy within we have been so warned about.

The whole article is a joke for anyone that knows what the SPLC is.

A representative from the SPLC was on Mike McConnell's radio show today. Mike pointed out that the SPLC was basically saying that all "hate" groups are on the right. The representative refused to associate anarchist groups with the left, and went so far to say that even though the New Black Panthers are on their "hate" list, they are not part of the left! Eventually, the representative grew more and more shrill and condescending and HUNG UP during the middle of the interview.

The SPLC is all leftist, all the time. I personally downgrade any article that uses them as a source for anything.

All the statists are afraid now - they’ve gone beyond what the overwhelming majority is willing to take in the behind. If they figure out how to steal the election in November this time, we’re in for a lot of Waco’s and Ruby Ridge’s in the twenty-teens.

Screw Newsweek. What they mean by ‘anti-government’ is really ‘pro-liberty.’ Evan Thomas is a piece of human garbage just like his grandfather.
