Shortly before a Tea Party rally started in downtown York on Saturday, Mark Sollars chanted from a bullhorn to throw the politicians out and for the people to take back their government.

Sollars, 20, Manchester, said he was tired of the government having too much control and people becoming dependent on a handout rather than get on their own feet.

Politicians aren't listening to the people on issues like health care reform, have become corrupt and aloof and have done little for the people such as creating good paying jobs, addressing the deficit or reducing taxes and government regulations, Sollars said.

Tea party rallies are becoming more numerous across the country for various issues. Where I live, they are adding weekly rallies in four towns. The weekly rally I attend on Saturdays has grown from six to approximately 30 since it started in early February. There was also a rally on Friday at the Connecticut state Capitol in Hartford to raise the Gadsden flag over the state Capitol because the request was rejected on the premise the Tea Party movement is a political party and therefore the flag was a political symbol. This was after the request was initially granted.

Yesterday there was a 2nd Amendment rally attended by 150 people. That's the first of its kind in Connecticut.

The numbers seem to be shrinking from thousands to hundreds. Any evidence that the media is under-reporting attendance?

Note that the bought-and-paid-for-and-told-what-to-say Coffee Parties have fizzled out completely.

Marxists have no staying power without thugs to back them up.

I suspect people are just waiting for the fall elections to voice their opinions at the polls.

I never knew about this until it was too late. If you have an email list for York Tea Parties, please FReepmail me.

This is a local tea party gathering, not one of the advertised stops on the Tea Party Express tour, which have been drawing thousands.

It was announced, surprisingly, in the York Daily Record last week, at least twice.

The fact that WSBA AM-910 personality Gary Sutton is one of the driving forces didn’t hurt.

He was mentioning the event many times each hour during morning drive time all of last week.

Gary is OK, except for his inordinate affection for Brenner and Platts, and the publicly financed baseball stadium.
