Circus horror as three-year-old is sent 8 metres above tiger pit at Chinese zoo

Spectators screamed in horror as a three-year- old circus girl tottered 130 metres along a tightrope above an enclosure full of hungry tigers.

The six Siberian big cats eyed little Zhang Xiaoyan with anticipation as, buffeted by strong winds, she made her perilous journey with no safety net.

Visitors criticised the crazy stunt which began when the wire was strung eight metres above the pen at Changzhou Yancheng Zoo, eastern China.

Both sites have pics of the girl. I personally thought the Tiger pics to be much better though.

This is a win-win situation in a country that does not exactly hold women in high esteem. If she makes the walk, the crowd is wowed and in roll the big bucks and companion taxes. If she falls off, no big loss: one less female mouth to feed. In a society with literally tens of millions of “missing girls” [http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5953508] what’s the loss of one more?
