Try just Michigan. I guarantee you that number is 10%. The company I worked for, as well as others in the same industry, made across the board 10% pay cuts in 2009. They have not been restored.

Wow. I guess I’m like Rush and I’ve refused to participate in this ‘recession.’

After reading all these hard-luck stories I looked back over my spreadsheets and our income and assets have GROWN for the past five years.

Of course, I’m a contrarian investor and a Goldbug, so take that FWIW. :)

I have a great job, Husband has his own one-man business, and I have a small business on the side. We have no debt other than our farm mortgage, so we can stash/invest a larger chunk of our cash each month than others because it’s not going to a car payment and credit cards, vacations, kids in college (pay your own way, Kids; we did!), etc.

Sorry to be a Ray Of Sunshine in a B*tch Session, but we’re NOT losing ground at our house. (And I am NOT defending 0bama in any way, shape or form.)

Maybe surviving Carter and Clinton taught me a thing or two? Never, EVER play into Mother Government’s hand. ;)

“I’d have been ecstatic if it was only a 3.2% drop in income.”

Me too! I doubt I’d even miss that little. I’m down more like 60%.

2% down here due to forced relocation and spouse worked for less.

Now we must look at the bright side. I’m reading more and more about how dad and mom losing their jobs have brought them closer to their kids who now have no intention of ever moving out. And now mom and dad’s parents are moving in and board game Tuesday nights are a big hit. It’s gonna be just like The Walton’s folks and we have Barry to thank.

When we reach a certain point... you will feel the same pain some of us feel now... but in your case it will hurt more because the fall will be much quicker and complete. I am not trying to bash your success... I celebrate your good fortune... but these are times like no other and the worst is yet to come.

I work in health insurance. My company just announced a 30% pay cut effective 10/1/10, and a 30% cut in bonuses effective immediately. Both are a direct result of the anticipated budget shortfall caused by the new “healthcare reform” legislation.

“3% across the board cut at my husband’s place of employment last year...”

My wifes company cut everyone in the company 30% and that’s over 10,000 people.

Guess I’m grateful to have a private sector job but no salary increases since 2006.

and property taxes went up double this year.

What?? In this economy or any for that matter? Your townsfolk should be storming city hall en masse with very large utensils!
