Oregon jury finds Boy Scouts negligent in sex case

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Jurors on Tuesday found the Boy Scouts of America negligent and awarded $1.4 million to a former Portland man who was abused by an assistant Scoutmaster in the early 1980s, following a three-week trial in which secret Scout "perversion files" were used as evidence.

The jury also decided the Irving, Texas-based Scouts organization was liable for punitive damages that will be decided in a separate phase of the trial. That would be in addition to the $1.4 million.

The Scouts denied allegations of negligence and said the files actually helped them keep child molesters out of their ranks.

This undated image made available by the State of Oregon on March 18, 2010 shows Timur Dykes. Relying on about 1,000 confidential Boy Scouts of America files, the lawyer for a man sexually abused in the 1980s by Dykes, a Scout leader who later admitted to being a serial molester, claims the organization has covered up abuse for decades.

The Scouts just can’t win. Damned if they do and damned if they don’t try to stop pervs.

So the Boy Scouts are wrong if they don't let gays be scout leaders, and they're wrong if they do.

I wonder what would have happened had the Scouts wholeheartedly embraced gays as scout leaders as the commielibs have wanted all along?

This whole thing is designed to rub an institution's nose into the dirt, one like the Catholic Church, which professes morality.

What better way to do it than to magnify the actions of a number of true reprobates and force the entire institution to become the standard-bearers of hypocrisy.

And pay thru the nose to boot.

The answer to that would be to look at the Girl Scouts..........

I was a Scout leader. The Scouts are very sensitive about what can happen. The training: “Two deep at all times.” Never, ever be alone with a child. Ever.

As a former Boy Scout, I'm always interested in who it is that wants to destroy them. This fellow's attorney is one Kelly Clark who is a very interesting character. Looks like sex abuse has become his specialty and has proved quite lucrative. I found this link Kelly Clark to an article about his life. Some of the more interesting excerpts from this are:

His mania culminated on June 10, 1992, when at 2 am Clark broke into his ex-girlfriend's Keizer home, disconnected the phone line, and locked the door behind him. She awoke with Clark standing above her in bed. For four hours, he subjected her to what the courts deemed "sexual contact without consent."

Along the way, Clark handled a few high-profile cases, including dozens of settled lawsuits against the Catholic Church for priest abuse. With typical settlements of several hundred thousand dollars and lawyers entitled to about a third of the takings, these cases allowed Clark to bounce back financially.

He is a sex offender who has made a mint defending the sexually abused, and he's also a former gay-rights advocate being paid to dismantle the biggest gay-rights victory in Oregon history.

"I get to represent the little guy going up against the big guy," he says. "I absolutely love that, whether it's the church, the government, insurance companies, banks."

Parked in front of Clark's office is his brand-new red Porsche Cayenne, which he says is the first "fancy car" he's ever owned.

I remember when I was in BS we were always having fund raisers to try to buy new tents. Wonder how many tents that Cayenne would have bought, but Kelly is the champion of the little guy against the corporate behemoth of the Boy Scouts.

The Scouts estimate the cost of keeping a boy in Scouting at $75/year. I always donate $75 each year when the fund raising drive is run. The $1.4 million award means nearly 19,000 boys won't have resources to participate this year. Thanks a bunch pervert. Why isn't this molester incarcerated for life?

My troop was sponsored by an elementary school PTA. That provided us a place to meet and occasionally a place to host a weekend movie where we could raise a little money on admission and snacks. Otherwise, we collected and recycled newspapers and ran a few weekend car washes to finance our own activities. Funds were always thin at best. We had little in terms of "troop" equipment. Most of us managed with our own personal resources.

It’s disgusting to hear this settlement when those of us who loved BS know how we squeaked by on meager resources so we could just go camping and hang with friends.

You just do not understand. The left knew that forcing the Boy Scouts to accept homosexuals would lead to abuse. the left wants to destroy any organization that promotes God - family - Country. They are afraid of any organization that builds leaders or has morals.

Where’s the other pictures?

Sex crimes allegations are serious business. Is anonymity a good thing in this case? The whole affair sounds disgusting, but not sure if it’s not a money-mining affair either. jus ‘sayin’.

What any organization should do, not just scouts, is look into the avenue of insurance to protect against trolls and goblins, and a good screening to prevent goofy people from doing anything against Boy Scouts to begin with. What’s silly is a pop culture that on one hand tries to normalize this kind of thing, and then bust anyone who follows along?

Strange.
