Posted on 04/13/2010 4:14:28 PM PDT by Nachum
The first man to walk on the moon blasted President Barack Obamas decision to cancel NASAs back-to-the-moon program on Tuesday, saying that the move is devastating to Americas space effort.
Apollo 11 commander Neil Armstrongs open letter was also signed by Apollo 17 commander Eugene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon; and Apollo 13 commander Jim Lovell, who is marking the 40th anniversary of his famous lunar non-landing this week.

If this story is halfway accurate, great to hear from these guys!!!!!
My childhood hero.
Love ya, Neil, but you’re wrong on this one.
Come now! What has Neil Armstrong ever done compared to Obama’s vast experience in semmingly every aspect of life?
/sarc, if needed.
A moonwalker? What the hell does he know compared
to The One. /s
THAT'S the most angering and frustrating thing about this person.
I can handle a Joe Biden @$$hole, or a Ted Kennedy drunk .... hell, I can even handle a Jack Murtha, "You and what army" ... but zero jus' don't give a rat's @$$ about anything but himself.
Obummer would craps his pants just putting on astronaut underwear.
We used to be able to land a man on the moon and bring him back. Now, we’re a beggar nation bowing and scraping to every dictator and slime on earth, pleading with the Arabs and the Chinese to buy our almost worthless government bonds so we can keep up our spending spree on worthless social programs that will turn us into just another shabby, ramshackle, socialist nonentity of a country. The lowlife we have as a president is dragging this country down worse than Jimmy Carter ever dreamed. It’s a disgrace.
O pisses everyone off!
I can tell you right now this isn’t playing too well in FL.
Obama came down and promised to give us a high speed rail that the citizens already rejected. I said to myself at the time, “This man is total manipulator. When he promises to give something, it is either a lie or he’s going to take something away.”
I think it was two days later the budget was killed for the space program.
Mr Armstrong, Obama hasn’t the depth or brilliance of your caliber. He has no vision, no ‘gravitas’. His experience is in taking from wage earners and giving to the stumble-bums.
He is, in short, out of his depth.

What you said.
And Russia just doubled the cost of transport on us.
The Russians have won the space race!
and then we'll pay $51 MILLION PER ASTRONAUT to Russia to get our men and women back and forth to space.
And leave space control to the Russians, Chinese, and others. Will we survive the American hating man?
(NASA) mission will shift from space exploration to Muslim diplomacy, as per the commander-in-chiefs orders.
Some 7,000 space industry workers will lose their jobs by the time the shuttle program ends, causing the loss of 14,000 public sector jobs and raising the unemployment rate to near 15 percent in Brevard. (that will actually be about 36,000 out of work)
and in Houston, even a DEMOCRAT candidate is asking for impeachment:
Off topic but kind of interesting. I was looking for old comedy stuff the other day and found Gene Cernan on a Dean Martin roast.
Cernan is the only man I’ve ever seen Rickles give this kind of respect to. No jokes, calls him a true American hero.
"Space is our highest priority, regardless of how hard the economic situation is in the country," Medvedev said in translated remarks. "Space will always remain our priority. This is not just somebody's interpretation, it's our official state position. I am here in my presidential office and when addressing you, I can confirm again the significance of space for the government."
Last time I checked, Neil, you were never a community organizer.
Glad to have his voice added to the fight against Obama gutting human spaceflight at NASA!
You can learn how to help right here....
You can send a general comment to the entire committee on science and technology here........
Takes literally two minutes.
Neil took a giant leap for us all.
We can take small steps and combine our voices now for him!
Well, enlighten us.
Now we need to catch rides to the ISS (now known as the Mir II) from the Russians.
Russia and China will be the only countries to have a manned space program after the end of this year. That is just wrong.
Space Program bump for later...........
It is a disgrace. There is a spiritual sickness in the country. A desire to always get something for nothing.
Decades and centuries from now - the name Neil Armstrong will still be remembered - as an explorer - Obama - nada - nobody, a nothin’.....btw - I met Neil Armstrong’s son many “moons” ago (sorry - couldn’t resist), but I did meet his son - that was pretty cool - especially for me - a young 20-year old - cute, too!!
The “Right Stuff” vs the “Wrong Stuff”.
Funny, I haven’t heard anyone at MSDNC call obama (small o) anti-science yet.
Gotta have more money for Obastard’s slush fund.
The debate on NASA's mission aside, seeing Zero criticized by (another) Apollo astronaut is a precious thing.
But we have money for high speed choo choo’s...
For Armstrong to speak out in public it must be a big deal...like Marcel Marceau uttering the only word in Mel Brooks’ “Silent Movie”.
How many times do we need to go round and round with politically correct joy ricers at $1 billion a shot?
Then to think of Obama pulling the plug on NASA so we can have free health care.
Yep. When you’ve lost Neil Armstrong, it’s getting pretty bad. Btw, it was 40 years ago today that Jim Lovell uttered those now unforgettable words, “Houston, we have a problem.”
I'd contribute towards a one way trip for him and his czars -
I think this space walker controversy is being orchestrated by the left and these astronauts to make conservatives call for more wasteful spending on space walkers during a recession so that they no longer have any authority to call for fiscal conservatism. If you really want more money spent on pointless NASA missions, back Obama and he’ll give up his gaming on this and call for more NASA spending.
Michael Jackson could not be reached for comment.
That's precisely Hussein's intention, Mr. Armstrong.
Barack Hussein Obama grew up in Indonesia as a kid. His was not the typical American childhood growing up proud of this nation or those who risked their lives to advance and protect it.
Oh come now, Armstrong and the other Moonwalkers tried to organize a community there but the atmosphere was too hostile...
