Tea Party Express PAC Outlines 2010 Targets
Blogs.ABC - The Note ^ | April 15, 2010 2:09 PM | ABC News’ Teddy Davis and Matt Loffman report

Posted on 04/16/2010 1:04:55 AM PDT by Cindy

SNIPPET: "The leadership of the Tea Party Express PAC came to the National Press Club on Thursday to herald its early successes and to unveil its expanded list of 2010 electoral targets."

SNIPPET: "In an effort to show that the Tea Party Express PAC is not a “tool” of the Republican Party, but instead is an independent political force, Russo announced that the PAC is getting behind one conservative Democrat who has opposed President Obama’s agenda: Rep. Walt Minnick (ID-01).

The decision to get behind Minnick is attention-grabbing because Republicans have fielded a strong candidate in that race: Iraq war vet Vaughn Ward..."

SNIPPET: "Republican Iraq war vet Vaughn Ward is responding to the Tea Party Express PAC’s endorsement of Rep. Walt Minnick, D-Idaho, by reminding voters of the more liberal aspects of Minnick’s record.

“This endorsement does not change the fact that Walt Minnick’s first vote in Congress was for Nancy Pelosi and her liberal agenda of higher taxes, more spending, and a more intrusive federal government that has done nothing to get Idaho families back to work,” said Ward in a written statement provided to ABC News. “When Walt had the chance to step up to the plate for Idaho families, he voted against permanently ending the financial bailouts and voted for a permanent extension of the death tax. Walt Minnick and Nancy Pelosi’s tax and spend policies continue to cripple our economy.""

Rep. Walt Minnick (ID) backs prisoner swap for Pfc. Bowe Bergdahl
Idaho Statesman ^ | 4/9/2010 | Kathleen Kreller
Posted on April 9, 2010 10:24:33 AM PDT by Domandred

The U.S. government should work out a prisoner trade with the terrorist group holding Pfc. Bowe Bergdahl of Hailey hostage, Rep. Walt Minnick, D-Idaho, said Thursday.

In an appearance on Nate Shelman’s afternoon show on 670 KBOI, Minnick said, “What the family and what I am hoping for is that we can work out some kind of a prisoner trade that down the road might release him but do it in a way that we get him back, but we aren’t trading a thousand for one.”

The Taliban released a video Wednesday in which Bergdahl pleaded for his freedom, saying that he wanted to return to his family in Hailey and that the war in Afghanistan is not worth the number of lives that have been lost or wasted in prison. At the end of the video, a speaker demanded the release of a limited number of prisoners in exchange for Bergdahl.

If there was any question at all that Minnick really was a whacko liberal pretending to be a blue dog democrat this should answer it.
The United States does not negotiate with terrorists.

Swapping prisoners is a bad, bad idea an only emboldens the scum into taking more hostages to swap with.

Vaughn Ward, Rep. Walt Minnick spar over money from Rep. Charles Rangel (Idaho 1st CD)
Idaho Statesman: Because Your Parakeet Deserves Only The Best ^ | 6 Mar 2009 | Dan Popkey
Posted on March 7, 2010 11:28:06 PM PST by GOP_Raider

Rep. Walt Minnick, D-Idaho, has announced the list of charities that will receive $10,000 Minnick got from Rep. Charles Rangel’s National Leadership PAC for the 2008 election.

Rangel, D-N.Y., stepped down as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Wednesday, after he was admonished last week for taking two corporate-sponsored trips to the Caribbean in violation of House rules.

Meanwhile, Republican challenger Vaughn Ward said Minnick should donate an additional $44,290 in contributions collected from individuals and political action committees in 2008 by another Rangel group, the Rangel Victory Fund, and transferred to Minnick.

This is the problem with “organizations” rather then grass roots efforts. An organization is concerned with how fair they’re going to be perceived so they feel compelled to find at least one Democrat they can support. They are willing to compromise principles for the sake of perception. A grass root effort just want the stupid people gone no matter what. They don’t care how people will perceive them.

If the Tea Party turns into an organization it will fail.

“Minnick Win Marks Pro-Choice Pick-Up in Congress”

SNIPPET: “Success in Idaho represents strong voter support for the values of freedom and privacy

Washington, DC – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, praised the voters of Idaho’s 1st Congressional District for electing NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC-endorsed candidate Walt Minnick, who defeated anti-choice Bill Sali.

“Minnick’s victory is a sign that voters are tired of the divisive attacks of the past and are ready for a change,” Keenan said. “Voters want leaders like Walt Minnick who will defend women’s reproductive freedom while uniting behind commonsense, common-ground proposals, like better access to birth control, that would prevent unintended pregnancies and thus reduce the need for abortion. We look forward to working with Minnick to stand up for the pro-choice values that the voters in Idaho support.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC endorsed Minnick and contributed $5,000 to his campaign. Throughout the 2008 election cycle, NARAL Pro-Choice America communicated with 625 member-activists in Idaho’s 1st Congressional District.”

Who is Sal Russo as noted in post no. 1 and also noted here?

“Sal Russo, Chief Strategist”

“Tea party endorsement catches Democrat Walt Minnick, his challengers off-guard”
Published: 04/16/10

SNIPPET: “Tea Party Express announced its slate of endorsements - and targets - at a rally in Washington held to mark the April 15 federal income tax deadline.

“We can’t be just a Republican organization. We’ve got to be an influential force in both political parties,” said Sal Russo, a veteran GOP political consultant and one of the forces behind the Tea Party Express. “We have to reward some Democrats that have been willing to stand with us on the tough issues.”

But a Boise tea party organizer said local leaders weren’t consulted about the Minnick endorsement, and they were puzzled by it.”

More on Walt Minnick, Democrat:

“Tea Party Express Endorses Walt Minnick (D-ID)”
Posted by streiff
Thursday, April 15th at 1:30PM EDT

SNIPPET: “Minnick voted for a wide range of big government programs. As a sampler he voted to expand SCHIP. He voted to kill Jeff Flake’s resolution restricting earmarks. He voted to kill the resolution that would have removed Charlie Rangel from his committee chairmanship. He voted against the RSC blueprint to reduce the budget.

Moreover, Minnick’s first vote in Congress when elected in 2008 was for Nancy Pelosi as speaker. His first vote in the next Congress, if reelected, will be the same.

All of these votes belabor the obvious. Walt Minnick is a Democrat who votes in a Democrat way with the Democrat caucus.

When you compare Minnick’s record with the GOP candidates, Vaughn Ward and Raul Labrador, it becomes crystal clear who the conservatives and small government advocates are in this race.

The Tea Party Express has to know this and encouraging their members to support… and send money to… a man who will vote for Pelosi as Speaker and big government programs should be unconscionable.”

SNIPPET: “Democrats control the executive and legislative branches of the federal government, and they have been relentlessly forcing socialism down the craw of the American people because progressives are in total control of the Democrat Party.

To solve the problem, simply vote out the Democrats and strip the power from the progressives. So what in the name of Sam Hill are the leaders of the Tea Party Express trying to prove by endorsing Idaho Democrat Walt Minnick for Congress?”

“Tea Party Express endorses Minnick?”

SNIPPET: “Minnick is apart of the problem, not a solution. We have several Conservative Republicans running in this district, to provide the residents of this district with 100% Conservative representation in Congress, instead of 30 or 40%. The Tea Party Express is endorsing a Democrat to fight off rumors of being a “GOP” operation, but what happens when Tea Partiers playing “politics as usual” hurts the Nation at large?”

SNIPPET: “Disgraceful.”

“Welcome to the Tea Party Comrade Minnick”

SNIPPET: “Prior to the march, a national group that hitched its wagon to the tea party train—The Tea Party Express—released a list of congressional targets and heroes. Idaho Rep. Walt Minnick made the list of tea party heroes, an announcement met with surprise (then incredulity, mockery and incomprehension) from multiple corners, starting with the Minnick campaign itself.

“Um, sure,” Minnick spokesman John Foster replied when the a href=”";> Huffington Post asked if the campaign was accepting the Tea Party’s backing. “Walt is not in the habit of turning down support,” Foster continued.”

SNIPPET: “Foster said Minnick has some rapport with local tea party activists. He also said he spoke with a representative of the Tea Party Express today who told him they’d looked at all the Blue Dog Democrats and decided that Minnick was the only one worth endorsing, particularly for his anti-earmark stance.”

SNIPPET: “That’s not exactly how Smerz, who said he resents the “government takeover of everything,” (not to mention the “socialist” bomb above) characterizes it.

“They just seem to have their hands on everything and I don’t think it’s necessary, we should do it ourselves,” Smerz told citydesk.

Moreover, the national Tea Party Express, which is run by establishment GOP operatives, never asked the local tea partiers their opinion on Minnick.

“We at Tea Party Boise were not consulted or given the opp for giving our input to Tea Party Express,” Smerz said. The local “party” has not endorsed any candidates, though they will publish candidate surveys on April 24.”

SNIPPET: “Ward said he’s running for the tea party vote too.

“I think that any candidate in Idaho would be foolish not to look at them as a strong voting block,” Ward told citydesk.

Ward said he shares many tea party stances including limited government, accountability and the fact the “the Constitution does matter.””

“Dan Popkey: Idaho candidates adopt tea party line
Idaho’s hottest race features three men who say they’ll do the most to balance the federal budget.”
Published: 04/18/10

SNIPPET: “Ward, the GOP front-runner challenging Minnick, has minimized that record, saying Minnick’s vote to re-elect Speaker Nancy Pelosi is what really counts. Ward aspires to be part of new GOP majority that would control Congress, balance the budget and repeal the health care law.

A Marine reservist who won a Bronze Star for valor in Iraq in 2006, Ward says the country faces a crisis that could undo everything attained since its founding.”

SNIPPET: “Minnick says he didn’t seek out the Tea Party Express endorsement but said he’s “delighted” the movement has raised the profile of the national debt.”

“Minnick: Tea Party Hero (Update 2)”
SNIPPET: “Finally, if Walt has such a “firm stance on fiscal accountability” as Foster asserts (and not to be confused with a wide stance), why did he vote against PayGo legislation after touting himself as a “vocal proponent” five days earlier? Maybe because, like in most things, Minnick isn’t always what he says he is.”

(February 4, 2010)

“Minnick’s Hollow Core; Votes Against PayGo”

SNIPPET: “Five days ago, Idaho Congressman Walt Minnick chastised President Obama for his “disturbing” budget proposal, advocating for more strict deficit reduction measures while encouraging reinstating statutory pay-as-you-go rules. In fact Minnick’s press release described himself as a “vocal proponent of PAYGO,” a spending control measure adopted in the 1990s which helped lead to budget surpluses.

Today Congressman Minnick had a chance to vote on a statutory pay-as-you-go rule and, inexplicably, he voted against it.”

“Make way for the Tea Party Express”
By Andrew Ian Dodge | Published: 04/20/10 at 12:16 AM

SNIPPET: “In a move, that is no doubt based on the Tea Party Express’ desire to be seen as non-partisan rather than merely a Republican front, they have endorsed one lone Democrat. The trouble with their selection is that he seems to be a rather odd choice. Why Walt Minnick was chosen seems to be a mystery to both Tea Party members and Democrats alike.”

SNIPPET: “But Minnick hardly has a Republican in Name Only as an opponent. Vaughn Ward’s website makes it very clear that this veteran is not from the centrist wing of the Republican party. He states clearly his beliefs. They read like the laundry list that would unite tea party people behind him. “Stop Tax Increases, Eliminate Wasteful Spending, Repeal and Replace the Health Care Bill, Defend our 2nd Amendment Rights, Secure Our Borders,No Amnesty.””

SNIPPET: “Tea Party Boise does not endorse Mr. Minnick or any candidate from any party at this time. Tea Party Express would be well advised to talk to those in Idaho who cast the votes.

Tea Party Patriots coordinator for Idaho said the following:

“… I am very disappointed and have requested an explanation. Minnick is no Conservative and I’ve been in touch with TP folks on his side of the state when they have had repeated demonstrations at his offices. He’s only voted with “us” because we hold his feet to the fire! So, I am not in agreement.”

Maybe Tea Party Express will explain their choice in that Idaho district to help with any confusion that tea party observers might be suffering. There are a lot of frankly befuddled Republicans, tea partiers and Idahoans that deserve an explanation why this race was singled out for such a spot of bizarre meddling.”

From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

Washington (CNN) –

SNIPPET: “In the lengthy press conference that partially amounted to a pat on the back for their efforts at impacting a handful of key races in the last several months, the group said they are only supporting candidates they feel have a viable shot at winning next November.

“In politics, you always have to be careful to promise what to do,” said Sal Russo, a GOP consultant who is aiding the Tea Party in their efforts. “We try to keep our focus on the doable. We have a lot of wonderful candidates that simply can’t win. So our focus is on the candidates that can win so we can really focus on taking America back.””

Voices.WASHINGTON ^ | April 20, 2010; 1:34 PM ET | By David Weigel
Posted on April 20, 2010 3:23:31 PM PDT by Cindy

SNIPPET: “The Tea Party Express’s endorsement of Rep. Walt Minnick (D-Idaho) has had little real political impact so far. After the endorsement, TPE’s Sal Russo couldn’t tell when we might see, say, a TV ad or mailer for Minnick — although Mark Williams claimed that the group had planned to run ads supportive of Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) until he decided to support the final version of health-care reform.

So what impact have we seen? A vast and efficient cheesing-off of tea party groups in Idaho.”

“Republican baffled by Tea Party endorsement of Democratic rival”
By Alex Pappas — The Daily Caller | Published: 04/21/10 at 3:06 AM | Updated: 04/21/10 at 4:41 PM

SNIPPET: “When the Tea Party Express last week endorsed Idaho Rep. Walt Minnick — the only Democrat to receive the backing of the conservative grassroots group — one of his Republican challengers said he was simply baffled to learn the news, considering Minnick’s past votes that line up with Democrats on the estate tax and Guantanamo Bay.

“He voted for Nancy Pelosi. I mean all these things — I’m like, ‘Wait a minute. This is the guy you guys want to get behind nationally?’” said Republican Vaughn Ward, an active Marine Corps reserve officer whose candidacy for Minnick’s seat was endorsed by Sarah Palin.

His initial shock, Ward told The Daily Caller during an interview Tuesday, turned to frustration upon learning from Tea Party groups in Idaho — who he said have not endorsed candidates in the race yet — that the Tea Party Express didn’t consult them before the endorsement of the Democrat.

“My campaign manager e-mailed it to me the day it happened, and I thought, ‘Huh, that’s interesting.’ And I started making some phone calls around and found out that, one, they didn’t consult anyone in Idaho,” said Ward, who also faces primary competition from state Rep. Raul Labrador and three other Republican candidates.

The Republican added: “It’s almost like, ‘Did they really do a thorough job of investigating his voting record?’”

Sal Russo, a strategist with Tea Party Express, said the group did reach out to a number of groups and activists, many of whom support Minnick.”

SNIPPET: ““When you find someone willing to stand up, you got to stand up with him,” Russo said.

The strategist said he wouldn’t be surprised to see the group add another Democrat or two to the list. “It can’t be a one-party issue. Fiscal responsibility has to be embedded in both parties,” he said.”

“Tea Party invites some legislators, snubs others”
2010-04-26 12:44:00

SNIPPET: “The Tea Party Express has its likes and dislikes – if a politician is on the wrong list, they will be targeted to join the ranks of the unemployed this November. On the other hand, TPE also has a list of heroes – even including one Democrat — who will get a helping hand.

According to political blog TPMDC, TPE spokesperson Mark Williams says that the groundwork for this election has been three years in the making.”

“’Tea’ is not spelled GOP”

SNIPPET: “The following commentary by Michael Costello ran in today’s Lewiston Tribune. Costello is always well worth reading.”

SNIPPET: “But the biggest problem with Minnick is that while his votes have placed him well outside the Democratic Party’s mainstream, his very occupancy of that House seat empowers Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, Barney Frank, and the rest of the extreme left that now rules Washington.

As I’ve said before, a vote for Minnick is a vote for Pelosi. And while I’m not displeased with Minnick’s voting record on behalf of Idaho, his presence there just catapults the moonbats into power.”

SNIPPET: “There is no formal organization in the Tea Party. Local Tea Parties do not take orders from the Tea Party Express and the Tea Party Express was elected by no one and no one answers to it. Its main claim to fame is that it travels in a very cool-looking bus and by the fact that it has been selected by the mainstream news media as spokesman for the Tea Party movement. The endorsement of Idaho Tea Parties will matter far more and the Tea Party Express endorsement will end up as no more than an historical curiosity.”
