RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia's governor led a ceremony at the state Capitol to mark the third anniversary of the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history at Virginia Tech.

Gov. Bob McDonnell on Friday read a proclamation at a gathering at the Capitol bell tower honoring the 32 who died and those who were injured in the shootings. He also said the state would observe Virginia Tech Remembrance Day each April 16 during the four years of his term.

The crowd observed a moment of silence, and McDonnell then read the names of each of the students and faculty fatally shot by a student gunman on April 16, 2007. The ceremony ended with the bell ringing 32 times. The gunman killed himself after the attack.

The kids that were Freshmen that year are now seniors. It’s the last real commemoration we will have.

3rd anniversary.

But I’d bet there’s a ranking somewhere, on the “Brady” scale.

This is a sad day.

My “Hokie” flag is flying at half-mast in front of my house today.

I wish the school administration would find a cure for their craniorectal insertion syndrome and stop infringing on the rights of faculty and students to defend themselves.

A building, not THE building.

Sorry! I meant *a* VaTech building. One of my co-workers is a Hokie, and I didn’t have the heart to tell her as it was going on. By the end of the day of course everyone knew, and nobody could get ahold of their kids so it was a tough ride home.

Cell towers were overloaded. I managed to call my wife just before they collapsed.
