Obama's Mockery of Tea Party Stirs Tax Debate
Fox News ^ | April 16, 2010 | Major Garrett

Posted on 04/17/2010 5:37:28 AM PDT by Zakeet

For 20 seconds on Thursday, President Obama basked in applause from donors in Miami when he mocked the nationwide Tea Party rallies that caused an eruption of angst on Tax Day.

"I've been a little amused over the last couple of days where people have been having these rallies about taxes. You would think they would be saying thank you," Obama said to a group of Democratic supporters who shelled out between $250 and $1250 to attend.

But it remains unclear who will get the last laugh: the president or the Tea Party?

"What the president said last night was arrogant and smug and a perfect example of why the Tea Party is so intense and so organized" said Republican strategist Terry Holt

Democratic strategist Peter Mirijanian defended Obama's statement by saying if you take a look at the middle class voters, contrary to protesters' claims, you'll see that their income levels and their taxes have actually not gone up.

He’s right about the income levels.

Well it’s hard to argue against the part of that statement that says income levels have not gone up. But I wouldn’t call it a strong defense of Obama’s policies. The intellect of the Dem strategists matches that of Obama’s rank and file supporters.

Obama is demonstrating to even the casual observer that he is comepletely clueless. He says he uses his Blackberry and all that crap to stay in touch, so he doesn't get trapped in a bubble.

What hogwash. The man would put a bubble like the one in the Simpsons movie over DC, and listen to the echoes of his teleprompter's rhetoric and the applause from those who think like him all day if he could. He wants nothing more than to be in a position where no one who disagrees with his point of view is allowed to speak in his presence--in other words, he wishes the world could be one big faculty meeting at Harvard, where he gets to edit the law review without having to publish, and no one will pop his fantasy bubble that it's because he's just so awesome.

Sorry I'm rambling, this guy's given me a headache.

However much he may make light of the Tea Parties, you can bet he is sincerely befuddled as to why the public isn't lapping up his largess at our expense.

In his mind he's thinking, isn't Robin Hood suppose to be popular?

Yes, it is also about the financial trainwreck that is just around the corner for this country. The Tea Party protests, like anguished screams in the night, are both a warning of impending doom, and an impassioned plea for help and a return to fiscal sanity.

“”The protests on Tax Day is one thing to stage,” Mirijanian said.”It’s another thing to mobilize and vote. That’s the true test.””

He’s thrown down the gauntlet. He’s sticking his finger in our face and telling us that we won’t defeat them in November.

What Obama, and alot of liberals dont understand, is that for Tea Partiers, and conservatives in general, its not necessarily about the PERSONAL. In other words, MY taxes don't have to go up, (in fact they might even go down), for me to believe that tax rates are TOO HIGH. Contrary to popular opinion, we DO think of others. We understand the burden that a high tax load places on producers, and thus society in general.

For example, you don't have to be Jewish to be worried about increasing antisemitism.

By Obama's logic, white people should have stayed out of the Civil Rights movement of the 60's. Sheesh, what ASSinine logic.

The only way we can ever regain control of our government is by hitting it, as these Socialists have been doing it to us, in their pocketbooks. Cut the purse strings, get control of the Tax Code and put pressure on our elected Reps to re-vamp the entire system, to the point where the government is can be held accountable for every tax dollar spent. Period.

For the record: I'm all for money well spent on law enforcement, the military and other “Essential” government services, that's fine with me. But idiots like this guy and the socialist cabal behind him are slowly sucking the life out of our civilization to the point where, I believe, the goal is the total collapse of it. Why? To try and re-establish that old canard of “World Socialism”.

Remember this: Obama is a “Front Man”, it's the people backing him that should be our concern.

and one last rant: We have to stop referring to these jokers as “Liberals”; They're not, they are socialists and communists and the American people have to be enlightened to this fact. Calling them Liberals only justifies their fascist philosophies and gives them legitimacy where none is deserved.

Well, I guess I’m one of the ones that Obama would say “benefited” from his porkulus plan. I qualified for the $2500 college tuition credit for my son who is attending the University of California. Previously my salary was too high to qualify. But the money came by borrowing from the Chinese, so both my son and I will have to pay it back in higher taxes very shortly.

Even more aggravating is before the ink was dry on the porkulus bill I got a letter from the UC Regents saying tuition was increasing 32% next year and they justified it by saying I could afford it because of the new tuition tax credit.

I was at the Santa Rosa tea Party in Calif. Allot of great Americans all very polite. My sign was to the point and mentioned deporting the marxist. There were others mentioning the allmighty one.

I was impressed with a young gal who got up and spoke and told her story of spending her first years in Russia. She is blown away that we now have an administration and politicians that are just like the government she and her family left.

So the next day I look at the Press Democrat ( the local paper) to see what was said about the gathering. Not much said just a few pics of people at the tea party. The way they depicted it with pics was showing older folks and kids standing around like it was an easter egg hunt with select signs showing the tamer sayings. Well my sing was in one of the group shots...and guess what...they had pixeled my sign blank. Now was this young lady right the mark or what?

I fear we’re past the point of no return. The ‘progressive’ agenda requires alot of revenue. Obama’s policies are narrowing the tax base when it should be expanding it. In other words there are fewer taxpayers and a larger need for taxes. The deficit spending WILL be curtailed by interest rates. (We’re paying over $300B/yr in interest with rates this low. Our interest payments will be over $500B by 2015, BEFORE the health care debacle passed. Our risk of default is going up so will interest rates.
Greece is now paying over 7% on a ten year sovereign note.)
Liberals don’t understand math apparently.

This isn’t going to be pretty.

Yes, THANK YOU Mr. Obama In the fifteen months of his presidency, President Obama has enacted into law, 25 tax increases totaling more than $670 billion, at least 14 of the taxes were violations of the Obama’s pledge not to raise any kind of taxes on Americans earning less than $200,000 for singles and $250,000 for married couples. The President's list of violations include: • Tobacco tax increase and expanded enforcement authority* • New tax on individuals who do not purchase government‐approved health insurance • A 40% excise tax on high-cost health insurance plans • A new "medicine cabinet tax" on over-the-counter purchases from HSAs, FSAs, and HRAs increasing the non-medical early withdrawal HSA penalty from 10 to 20 percent • A "special-needs kids" tax (capping FSA contributions at $2500) • An increase in the top Medicare payroll tax rate from 2.9 to 3.8 percent (in so doing raising the top marginal tax rate on labor from 37.9 to 43.4 percent) • A hike in the capital gains rate from 15 to 23.8 percent • A hike in the dividends tax rate from 15 to 43.4 percent • A hike in the "other" investment tax rate from 35 to 43.4 percent • An increase in the "reduction of the deduction" for medical expenses from 7.5 to 10 percent of AGI • New annual taxes on health insurance companies, innovator drug companies, and medical device manufacturers • A 10% excise tax for tanning salon sessions eliminating the deduction for employer-provided retiree Rx coverage in coordination with Medicare Part D • Creating the "economic substance doctrine," which allows the IRS to disallow perfectly-legal tax deductions it deems are only being used to reduce tax liabilities • Requiring 1099-MISC information reporting for small business payments to corporations, increasing compliance burdens for small employers Maybe the President shouldn't be so snarky in asking for thanks, he should consider himself lucky that every night when he goes to sleep he doesn't hear the hundreds of thousand voices of the tea party protesters calling him a liar, because that's what he truly deserves.
