(CNN) -- Luci Baines Johnson, the younger of the late President Lyndon Baines Johnson's daughters, has been hospitalized at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, according to a former member of Johnson's staff.
Luci Johnson, 62, was first taken to the Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday after complaining of extreme weakness in all her extremities, said Tom Johnson, who worked for the Johnson administration and later served as president of CNN in the 1990s.
Doctors there recommended that she be treated at the Mayo Clinic for what physicians believe is Guillain-Barre syndrome, Johnson said. It's an autoimmune disorder affecting the nervous system.

Prayers to Luci.
Prayers for Luci Johnson.
I don’t recall either Lynda or Luci ever using their father’s presidency to promote themselves. Lady Bird Johnson was also a classy First Lady.
“”Do wonder if Lucy received any flu vaccine this year.””
That comment will get you into all kinds of trouble here. People simply will not educate themselves about the dangers of vaccines and we sure as heck can’t expect the government to reveal what they know or the drug companies to take responsibility. How many people know about the Rotovirus vaccine pulled from the market in March due to contamination and given to 1 million babies in this country and 30 million worldwide?
Drug company profits trump all else!!! $500 billion a year by 6 vaccine makers in this country.
Prayers.
My family passed on the swine flu vaccine. I hope this is not the cause of Luci’s illness.
I guess it’s safe to assume that the MSM will do their best “not” to ask this question.
Prayers for her health.
yeah, I agree with you on that. The Johnson women were/are a class act. Real Texas ladies. The current FL might take a lesson or two but that’s asking alot.
looking at her picture and her age I wonder if she didn’t overdose on Botox. She looks too good. But, any way get well Luci.
She’s just in her early 60s, and her mom lived a long time and aged well. Probably just good genes.
prayer bump
GBS is an autoimmune "disease" and can be triggered by more than flu, flu vaccines or vaccines in general. My wife contracted it a few years ago apparently as the result of surgery -- one of the known triggers.
The good news is that if caught soon enough a 100% recovery is possible (my wife's was one of those), and it sounds like Luci's case is even earlier-stage than my wife's.
The bad news is that once you've had it you are more susceptible. We had discussed having my wife come along on my next trip to India (if ever), but the vaccinations necessary are a concern.
My mother had GBS at the age of 66, but there was no vaccine involved. It was preceded by a lingering stomach virus. A friend's mother also had it in her early 60's, preceded by a viral infection. Kind of sobering to think you can get something that normally runs its course (the common cold, the flu, Norwalk, etc.), and end up paralyzed.
If Lucy is only complaining of weakness, they've caught it early. She's lucky, she will probably need PT but the GBS will not progress to the point where she is fully paralyzed or needs to be put on a respirator.
Lynda may not have but her husband certainly did.
Have not reat this; but have you hear/read of Dr. Mary's Monkey? You can just google if interested. Incredible in it's premises and asertions and unfolding.
Your referencing the book is most interesting as my medical entomologist friend just discussed it last night.
My mother had G-B syndrome some 20+ years ago.
At the time, she was taking allergy-desensitization shots - a new batch of vaccine, later found to be contaminated, was ruled to be the proximal cause of the illness.
My Mom had ALL here extensive medical bills (including a 2 week stay on the ventilator in the ICU, and nearly a year of physical therapy) paid for by the manufacturer.
Needless to say, NOBODY in my family has received ANY vaccines since that time.
In the President’s Secret Service by Ronald Kessler, Chapter 3.
No, I haven’t heard of that, I’ll have to investigate.
Re vaccines, they contain live or killed viruses or virus segments, so there you go, a virus is still the trigger.
There have to be multiple triggers, though, a perfect storm required to make it happen. What I find puzzling is how several people can be exposed to and catch the same virus (or get the same batch of vaccine), and only one will have their immune system start to attack and destroy their myelin. Even more puzzling is how it can be brought about by having surgery.
Years ago (about 1987) I worked with a man that had a teenage daughter who died after a stubborn, lingering, stomach virus. She became weak and started having trouble breathing, and was taken to the ER at a very small rural hospital. She was 15, and they diagnosed her as having a bilateral stroke because it quickly became worse where she couldn’t move or breath. They lost her the night they brought her in.
After my Mom went through her ordeal many years later, I recalled everything this man had told me about his daughter’s stomach virus and her symptoms when she died. I believe that it wasn’t a bilateral stroke, but was GBS, and there was no need for that girl to die. Most, even if they have to rely on a respirator for several months, do recover. But, it was a very small hospital and GBS is so rare that very few doctors ever see a case.
