After Health Care Passage, Obama Pushes to Get It Rolling - "faster than the law requires"
NY Times ^ | Apr 17, 2010 | Jackie Calmes

Posted on 04/18/2010 10:30:21 AM PDT by SmartInsight

Mindful that the new health care law’s ability to slow rising medical costs will depend to a great extent on how it is put in effect, President Obama is assembling a high-level team to carry out key elements of the overhaul and is considering moving faster than the law requires to put them into action.

Sebelius has begun work on the first of what will be numerous regulations for Medicare, Medicaid and private health care providers.

The secretary can expand successful ideas nationwide without Congress's permission.

Mr. Obama, whose legacy will be shaped less by the law's passage than by how well it works, has begun marshaling what is "essentially the biggest transformation of government since World War II,"...

But Mr. Obama has urged advisers to consider moving sooner to set up an Independent Payment Advisory Board for controlling Medicare spending. Some administration officials, however, fear that creating the board much before 2014 could prematurely make it a target for attacks of the "death panel" sort, leaving it politically vulnerable before its powers to impose changes take effect.

The board was a top priority for Mr. Obama during the long legislative battle.

Obama is an idiot. The laws of supply and demand cannot be overruled by legislative fiat. Costs will skyrocket when health care is offered “free” to all who ask.

This is WORSE than anyone can imagine — please read the entire article.

Further down it says that these panels can act unilaterally, Congress can act within 30 days to modify or reject the panel’s decisions, BUT Obama can veto Congress, then it will take 2/3 majority to override his veto.

Welcome to the death panels.

And more, towards the end of the article — the law has many pilot programs and one “promising” approach is to eliminate “fee for service” and pay doctors “to coordinate care for a fixed sum”.

You know what that means — if you have a chronic illness or need tests to diagnose what you have you won’t get it, since the incentive for doctors will be to NOT treat you.

and the law more generally, could prove more effective at restraining spending than estimated by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office — if only because of the nation’s bleak fiscal future...

...“I’m modestly optimistic because the fiscal environment which we will be in, in three or four years, will be so desperate that the Congress and the administration will be looking for any mechanism or device that can hold down the growth of spending,”said Robert Reischauer, an economist, health policy expert and former director of the Congressional Budget Office.

My...how very encouraging.

“Congress might have little choice in coming years but to accede to unpopular limits on payments for doctors, hospitals and other health care providers of the kind that lawmakers have ignored in the past. The board would give them political cover to do so.”
There you have it, the NY Times endorsing the establishment of the Death Panels.

Wish we could bring about the Grey Lady’s demise.....

You know I was thinking yesterday. (while doing laundry)

What if the nanny staters start filing lawsuits:
1) HCR guarantees, healthcare services.
2) Limited HC unconstitutional due to inequality of services.
3) HC a RIGHT, (with all that implies)
4) Either it will have to be repealed, or vastly expanded (discally impossible)
5) Docs opt out of profession. Find less restrictive, higher paying profession.

“Fee for service” means an end to private practice. Doctors will become employees of hospitals who will basically become a GSE.
There will be no ‘incentive’ to do any more than necessary to keep the patient comfortable. Doctors clamouring for this provision can treat according to protocol, guilt free.

That’s how it reads to me...this whole administration has only one thing in mind...where is the largest flows of monies and how they can obtain and control it. It is not and never was about the peoples health nor insuring those without ins. Smoke and mirrors is an understatement...

The target, we’ll soon see, is control of the Insurance Industry. Big money there and they are going after it. Note Bidens comment refers to this.

Maybe, but in light of his flagrantly ignoring public opinion to cram this bill through, overtly speeding up its implementation is like waving a red flag in front of an already-enraged bull. He may hope he can stop the bull with his sword, but he also risks being gored badly. Wouldn’t it be sweet to see Barack Obama GORED in 2010 and 2012?

That is Obama speak for you are so screwed! if in doubt look here -

"I'm proposing a $40 million initiative led by a high-level team from the White House, NASA, and other agencies to develop a plan for regional economic growth and job creation. And I expect this plan to reach my desk by Aug. 15. It's an effort that will help prepare this already skilled work force for new opportunities in the space industry and beyond."

As it begins to screw up every aspect of American life, the American people will come to curse the day they went insane and handed this wreak of a man the keys to the WH. The pathetic narcissist has a legacy to consider instead of jobs for American people.

They already have. Have you noticed how much of your income they confiscate from your pay before you even see it?

We've been slaves for a long time. Most of us don't realize it, however, because the chains of our enslavement is debt and our prisons are plush homes that we'll never own.
