New silken brain implants that mold to the organ's grooves and crevices like shrink-wrap could lead to better devices for monitoring and controlling seizures.

"They can also serve as advanced brain-machine interfaces for control of prosthetics and other devices," said John Rogers, a professor of materials science and engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

The new implants could transmit signals from the brain to the prosthetic, Rogers and his colleagues explain in the April 18 issue of the journal Nature Materials.

still early but this development could have major implications for some kinds of brain trauma and uses of prosthetics??

it's probably a long way from lab work with cats to any human applications, but still exciting to think there may be more hope for future improvements for various kinds of trauma and surgery survivors

ha ha, I think this would work more as a kind of “patch” in a limited area of brain tissue that would restore or improve certain functions

but I sure don’t know, and it seems rather early in the research.... I’m simply impressed that “they” could do anything like this, even just with cat brains
