In an interview, U.S. Representative John Conyers, D-Detroit, repeatedly referred to anti-government activists as "tea baggers" and said that their "rational abilities" are "compromised" because of their anger.
"We are here now to understand the frustration of the tea baggers and the people who are angry," said Conyers. "Many times when you're angry, your rational abilities are compromised."
The comments came at the Michigan Democratic Party endorsement convention.
Conyers, who is Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, turned the conversation towards the tea parties and the recent health care bill after being asked how Democrats could remain in contention in Michigan.
"The facts are, many of the tea baggers that were hollering and being profane and screaming and using profanity...guess what? They are going to be beneficiaries [of the health care bill]."

Hey I like that!
“rational abilities”
The irony is too rich, even for a comedy writer. Conyers, on a good day, has the brain of a dead turnip. And he’s questioning the “rational abilities” of someone demanding a return to the constitution?
This is why the Dems are the Dims.
Oh, yeah? Not if we can do something about it, slimebag.
At least we have "rational abilities." which is more than I can say for Conyers and the other Dems.
These guys really have no clue.

does that mean he’s going to force us to have mental health evaluations?
What is Conyers’ definition of rational abilities? Not reading bills that you are passing. Not obeying the constitution. Choosing special interest over you own constituents. Yea, Conyers has real credibility when it comes to rational abilities (sarcastically).
Comimg from a representative of the Nation’s finest constituency
HaHaHa, well at least our moral judgment is not compromised.
Oh, I forgot he was from Detroit. That explains everything.
Idiot Conyers, in his attempt to vilify and impugn the Tea Party movement, has managed to speak the truth, though it’s probably not what he meant.
Maybe I missed something, but I don’t recall any reference to last week’s T.E.A. Parties in his quote. And “tea-baggers” (using the original use of the term) are quite angry, mainly because the government doesn’t give them full rights to do anything they want to anyone at any time in any place.
If the leaders of the movement are intelligent, they could and should turn this one right back on him and the rest of his ilk. But that’s just me...
On his website, one of the issues is ‘Reparations’.
I guess that’s next on the WH agenda...
I first saw this phrase last night and i'm still smiling from it today!
will the media call out this racist for his obvious slur??
I saw it in a picture of a poster from the Tea Party posted here today. I love it!
“The facts are, many of the tea baggers that were hollering and being profane and screaming and using profanity...guess what? They are going to be beneficiaries [of the health care bill].”
I just read this sentence. I guess Conyers didn’t get the message that tea partiers (their real name) are more wealthy and educated than the general public. They most likely already have their health insurance, like it and want to keep it.
Sorry, I misspoke, everyone will be the “beneficiaries” of the health care bill once access is limited to a select few.
Someone should explain to him what teabagging is and how it is Anderson Cooper came by the term.
“God will provide”.
Not that I wish any harm to come to the man, but you never know what God has planned for the future.
