Stewart Rhodes does not seem like an extremist. He is a graduate of Yale Law School and a former U.S. Army paratrooper and congressional staffer. He is not at all secretive. In February he was sitting at a table at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) at a fancy downtown hotel in Washington, handing out fliers and selling T shirts for his organization, the Oath Keepers. Rhodes says he has 6,000 dues-paying members, active and retired police and military, who promise never to take orders to disarm U.S. citizens or herd them into concentration camps. Rhodes told a NEWSWEEK reporter, "We're not a militia." Oath Keepers do not run around the woods on the weekend shooting weapons or threatening the violent overthrow of the government. Their oath is to uphold the Constitution and defend the American people from dictatorship.

Oath Keepers are "a particularly worrisome example of the 'patriot' revival," according to Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which monitors hate speech and extremist organizations. "Patriot" groupsdescribed by the SPLC as outfits "that see the federal government as part of a plot to impose 'one-world government' on liberty-loving Americans"are "roaring back" after years out of the limelight, according to Potok. Notorious in the aftermath of the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, the patriot groups seemed to fade away under the shadow of 9/11, but hard times and the nation's first African-American president seem to have brought about a revivalfrom 149 groups in 2008 to 512 (127 of them militias) in 2009, according to the SPLC.
It is easy to exaggerate the numbers of...

All these useful idiots in the media got their marching orders from Rahm to write these fairy tales, it appears.
Not bloody likely.
My gawd...This is getting out of hand.
Where’s the “hate” around being “anti-government?”
Newsweak is a liberal tabloid that I can’t wait any longer for it to go bankrupt.
I want to see them all out of a job and their investors ripped off.
This is a last ditch effort by the other side. They are losing their power.....
The Southern Poverty Law Center is an extremist hate group.
It is overtly anti-Christian (and I note that as a Jew).
Hate should also not be wasted on minor characters, ankle-biters like Keith Olbermann. He is beneath contempt, but he does not deserve hate. Come to think of it, Evan Thomas is close to the who-cares border as well, LOL.
The same Evan Thomas, 2 years later:
Newsweeks Evan Thomas: Obama Is Sort of God
“I mean in a way Obamas standing above the country, above above the world, hes sort of God.”
Make it 99% discount, and I still won't buy it..unless it's cheaper and softer than toilet paper that is.
Thank God for Oath Keepers. I pray the movement grows to encompass most of our military. How far would Hitler have gone without a mindless military taking orders.
They frame the argument as if WE the People are mere subjects of the government.
We the People are anti-Monster-cancerous-do-all government.
We the People are anti-government-that-redistributes-wealth.
We the People are anti-government-subverting-processes-to-push-bills-that-clearly-are-bad-and-most-people-made-that-clear.
What’s wrong with anti-governmentalism? It’s a fundamental American trait.
And the elitist call us “cracker barrel philosophers”.
So be it. We do not forget.
Their scorn and contempt will be repaid by We the People.
EVERY ONE OF THESE vicious people should be ashamed of themselves. Since they won’t, WE need to shame them!

Not bloody likely.
Not if it was 188%
I do not see Newsweek surviving as a print Magazine much longer. They are losing readers and will end up like a Salon Magazine, if that.
The Newscreeps have it wrong as usual.. Ma and Pa Americans are upset at the Extremists in the White House. They are going down. They are exposed.
