How radical Islam might defeat the West: A reprise
Asia times ^ | Spengler

A decade ago I argued that radical Islam might horrify the West into submission through the mass sacrifice of Muslim lives. During the past two weeks Iran has virtually invited a nuclear exchange with the West, in a series of statements that blend a deranged sort of bluster with malevolent calculation.

Iran's Kayhan press service warned last week, "If the US strikes Iran with nuclear weapons, there are elements which will respond with nuclear blasts in the centers of America's main cities." Meanwhile, Behzad Soltani, the number two man at Iran's Atomic Commission, proclaimed last week, "Iran will join the world nuclear club within a month in a bid to deter possible attacks on the country," adding, "No country would even think about attacking Iran once it is in the club."

By the normal standards of diplomacy, these statements appear

I want an apology from all the libtards who claimed for the past nearly 10 years that Iran “only wanted to have a nuclear power plant!”

I know, I’m not holding my breath. I sure would like to confront one or two with this quote from the Atomic Commission.

Our Government is doing such a fine job of destroying our Republic, I don’t think that radical Islam has a chance.

I once got into it with a FReeper who was making that argument. Your post made me wonder whatever happened to him. As it turns out no apology will be forthcoming as his account has been suspended.

I am often remineded of how Hitler bluffed England and France into submission in 1936 to 1939 tyhrough fear of bombardment. The result was that Germany had time to arm, with the end results being the millions of dead and hundreds of European cities bombed.

Virtually all of Grand Dhimmi Mullen's arguments are reasons to attack Iran now before it has nuclear weapons, lest we face a nuclear state that uses terrorism quite openly.

Yeah, I recall going a few rounds with people registered for a while here as well. I wouldn't call them "FReepers" though.

Frightened souls trying rationalize harsh reality while dealing with their own demons inside. They tend not to last at Free Republic because their fear annoys the regulars.

If you read this, it's depressing in a lurid sort of way, although a good evaluation.

Israel has been forecasting their intents for this situation for a number of years now. They have been pretty clear.

Dore Gold's The Rise of Nuclear Iran: How Tehran Defies the West a very thorough legal and moral argument before the world for any actions by Israel in the future.

Although I understand there are many within Iran who are not supporters of this regime, the regime has been pretty clear forecasting their intentions as well, not only for Israel, but anybody else they feel is an enemy.

I speak for a whole lot of people when we say we stand with Israel. I have very little confidence, if any, in the current U.S. administration to handle this with any effectiveness, at least in the direction of long-term global peace and stability.

This is the putrid result, geo-politically, of a GOP rotted out from the inside by RINO's. We need to keep agitating for that needed reform from the inside.

Unlike the 1930s, there’s no comparison between our ability to project force and that of Great Britain/France vs Germany. Still we out Chamberlain Chamberlain. Admiral Mullen’s job shouldn’t be about a range of options, it should be one of destroying the enemy, when given the order. Which isn’t forthcoming, so no matter I guess. We’re simply going to stumble about the Iranian bomb.

There is a necessary premise for this line of thought that is not optional.

It is not ancillary.

It is not something you can say “Yes but...” about.
The author has attempted to write this article as if this premise were a given. It is not.

Yet the article makes no sense if the premise is not true, so the writer avoids debating the premise...by the brilliant stratagem of pretending it is not there or irrelevant.

Pretty much like explaining how to run an international airline...without fuel on hand or a source to buy it. It wont fly.

The premise presented here is “There is no God of the Bible”. After throwing that one out, it was fairly simple for the writer to proceed to also not factor in the extent of Israel's nuclear arsenal, which they admitted to be at aproxxamately a 200 warhead capacity at the time the oslo accords were negotiated in 1998, and which some military observers believe has been increase by twenty five to thirty five warheads each year since.

How clever. What brilliant analysis.

Yawn.

In 1936, France could put 50+ divisions on Germany's border and overrun the country in a month. The issue was that of will.
Today, we lack the iwll to bomb Iran, much less invade.
