Today's Quakes Deadlier Than In Past... Because Of Global Warming
CBS news ^ | June 18, 2008 | Associated Press

Posted on 04/20/2010 6:15:20 PM PDT by StACase

(AP) New research compiled by Australian scientist Dr. Tom Chalko shows that global seismic activity on Earth is now five times more energetic than it was just 20 years ago.

The research proves that destructive ability of earthquakes on Earth increases alarmingly fast and that this trend is set to continue, unless the problem of "global warming" is comprehensively and urgently addressed.

The analysis of more than 386,000 earthquakes between 1973 and 2007 recorded on the US Geological Survey database proved that the global annual energy of earthquakes on Earth began increasing very fast since 1990.

Dr. Chalko said that global seismic activity was increasing faster than any other global warming indicator on Earth and that this increase is extremely alarming.

"The most serious environmental danger we face on Earth may not be climate change, but rapidly and systematically increasing seismic, tectonic and volcanic activity," said Dr. Chalko.

"Increase in the annual energy of earthquakes is the strongest symptom yet of planetary overheating.

"NASA measurements from space confirm that Earth as a whole absorbs at least 0.85 Megawatt per square kilometer more energy from the Sun than it is able to radiate back to space. This 'thermal imbalance' means that heat generated in the planetary interior cannot escape and that the planetary interior must overheat. Increase in seismic, tectonic and volcanic activities is an unavoidable consequence of the observed thermal imbalance of the planet," said Dr. Chalko.

Dr. Chalko has urged other scientists to maximize international awareness of the rapid increase in seismic activity, pointing out that this increase is not theoretical but that it is an Observable Fact.

"Unless the problem of global warming (the problem of persistent thermal imbalance of Earth) is addressed urgently and comprehensively - the rapid increase in global seismic, volcanic and tectonic activity is certain. Consequences of inaction can only be catastrophic. There is no time for half-measures."

So, is are earthquakes stronger because the air is hotter than the ground??? But I thought the earth was a million degrees inside. Man oh man. Save us from these maroooooons.

You know what an "expert" is? An "ex" is a has-been. And a "spert" is a drip under pressure.

Anthony Watts dealt with this at the time on his climate blog, wattsupwiththat.com

The “scientist” in the story is some sort of new age mystic he even goes so far as to say the planet will explode because of the overheating.

CBS quietly took the story down, apparently after someone did their fact checking for them. They also attributed the story to the Associated Press even though it wasn’t an AP story.

Go to Anthony’s site to read more about this guy (complete with links to some of his other crazy stuff)

So...

If you say God is the cause of earthquakes and volcanoes the MSM will say you’re a kook and a nut and laugh at you;

BUT...

If you say man caused global warming and that caused earthquakes and volcanoes

then they give you the Nobel Prize.

Just want to get the rules straight.

The guy is a complete nutjob.

If the world climate is changing, and that is a big if, then maybe the source and cause is under our feet. There certainly seem to be a lot of earthquakes.

Of course, the zealot environuts and so called scientist will poo-poo that idea in second. Without even considering it as a possibility. After all, they have an agenda to push.

They have had seismometers and measuring quakes since 1880.While not providing time information or information on distant earthquakes these did give accurate initial shock directions and proved useful in a late 19th and early 20th century analysis of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.I think the scientists need to analyze the records further in time to get accurate report.

Since there has been no global warming for the past 17 years (Mann’s admission), this blows a big hole in the seismic activity/global warming link unless you accept the fact that the earth might be cooling and heat is trapped underground. Like the volcano in Iceland knew this.

Never let a scientist drink.

I'm calling BS on this one. A more recent article (March 1, 2010) on the same topic stated: So, bottom line, the Earth isn’t becoming more active, more dangerous, or even “out of control.” Despite the fear mongering and what esteemed mainstream media networks would have you believe, the simple reality is that the numbers prove things are happening at an expected rate. Keep that in mind the next time a large earthquake happens and everyone is wondering why the Earth seems so active!

See the whole article at Geology News at http://geology.rockbandit.net/2010/03/01/has-there-been-an-increase-in-earthquake-activity/

Okay, who’s at fault?

“The lights are going out all over the rational world and we do not know when they will come back on.”

I would suggest that while those in the grove of the academe are getting steadily less bright, it is interesting to observe that the Internet is throwing lots of light into many new places.

The frantic rustling you hear is the academented (intellectual roaches) running for cover.

Room temperature water on glass is fine but boiling water thrown onto glass will crack it. It is called Heat stress. A warmer Earth would actually lessen stress because the difference in heat between the surface and the interior would be less!
