John Paul Jones President Command Military with Pen Only. He May Cut the Throats of Citizens.
Life and character of the Chevalier John Paul Jones ^ | unknown | John Henry Sherburne

"I am glad that the new constitution will be, as you tell me, adopted by the nine states.

I hope, however they will alter some parts of it; and particularly that they will divest the President of all military rank and command; for though General Washington might be safely trusted with such tempting power as chief command of fleet and army, yet depend on it, in some other hands it could not fail to overset the liberties of America.

The President should be only the first civil Magistrate, let him command the military with the pen; but deprive him of the power to draw his sword and lead them, under some plausible pretext, or under any circumstances whatever to cut the throats of a part of his fellow citizens, and to make him tyrant of the rest.

These are not my apprehensions alone, for I have mentioned them to many men of sense and learning since I saw you, and I have found them all of the same sentiment."

This is part of JPJ's correspondence to General DE LA Layette. Located it while browsing in google books.

Since we have witnessed Obama's verbal attacks on the Tea Party movement and other numerous events thought it should be posted.

Great find. We’ve survived so far with the system as it is. I doubt “the messiah” is ignorant enough to give such orders, he would not like the response of his commanders if he did.

It does provoke some thought however. I am continuously amazed at the prescience of our forefathers. It borders on the unreal.

Was it the Whiskey Rebellion, where he did this very thing?

thanks for posting this, as an Australian I will be very interested in reading Freeper replies to this:

Human nature has not progressed. Indeed, with the current president, it seems to have backslid to the 7th century..

Even though Washington was nearly above criticism, it was controversial when Washington, while President, personally led the Army against the Whiskey Rebellion.

Until it is free of all ambiguity Obama being a natural born citizen and based on John Paul Jones warnings, Congress should consider suspending Obama as commander in chief of the military.

The military is forbidden from operating within our borders, which should address such issues. However, during the past years, we have seen those lines blurring.

Though I’m sure many wouldn’t follow orders to fire on US citizens, at the same time I fear that most of them would. I’m certain when that time comes, it will be ‘justified’ in some way.

Yes. And then we would all sleep safer in our beds.

We have also seen a great deal of militarization of police, and even private ‘security’ forces.

These men not only fought against tyranny but were commited to the people they free as they free themselves. This is the first rule of engagement.

JPJ sure was a ruthless military leader..he had to be. His concerns were one day America being captured by tyrant and he did not want this to happen.

Have to wonder what JPJ would do if he was the current commander of the fleet.

He’d certainly fire Mullen’s gay Chinese commi loving arse.

Our rules of engagement lose on the perception battle because they make the liberators appologetic instead of the liberators expecting to be welcomed by the liberated.

We have to build our confidence against tyranny, of making freedom happen and of knowing that we need to stick to the very guns that people will ultimately welcome in our hands as the FBI/fed run away scared from “banks too big to fail”, “from laws to entrenched in bureaucracy to be repealed”, “from illegals too many to be kicked out” etc...

It’s not the evil people we are after, but this evil religion which wants to manufacture people who have politicians way too much under their skins like a tattoo. They make the blind believe that they are inadequate and that thus anyone out to stop blindness is a hater of the blind who wants to turn them to the seeing.

Let us face it, liberals think women and people are too dum and to cowardly to pull the trigger against evil, and that is why they government jingoist fleshist whorocratic pimping behavior is going so far these days. To make health care slavery acceptable or enforced, they will accuse us of denying care to gay people, when it is the opposite, as it is also the opposite to usher them away from such destructive lifestyle as part of the health prevention of things. The pimps and sex predators on the internet turn kids against their parents, it is their trademark and it is the trademark of these professional pedophiles in government today.

The leftists are saying the Founders could not have used Vattel’s Laws of Nations because the Founders were from England and did not speak a foreign language. They slander the Founders to cover for Obama.

Jefferson could read the classics in the Latin and Greek when he was a young boy.

One of Jeffersons older sisters passed at the age of 22..he wrote her a Latin epitaph...Ah, Joanna, puellarum optima....

They will resort anything to keep the secrets of Obama secret.

So you think that Obama will move from words and verbal attacks (”the pen”) to a point where he will ...”draw his sword and lead them [the military], under some plausible pretext, or under any circumstances whatever to cut the throats of a part of his fellow citizens...”?

Do you believe that the military would follow such orders? Because that is the only way that Obama can become a tyrant. American citizens wouldn’t allow it willingly.

Where did you see Leftists arguing about Vattel’s Laws of Nations and the English language? I didn’t even believe that Leftists would be familiar with Vattel, much less put forward an argument concerning the Founders’ familiarity!
