Arizona Daily Star This image provided Wednesday by the Cochise County Sheriff's Department shows Alejandro Chavez-Vasquez, who has been identified as a person of interest in several burglaries near Portal.
The Cochise County Sheriffs Office is looking for a person of interest in connection with several burglaries that took place this year in the Portal area in Southeastern Arizona.
They are looking for Alejandro Chavez-Vasquez, who has given authorities various birth dates and lives in Agua Prieta, Mexico. Officials say he has a criminal history with convictions that include sex crimes, auto theft and being an aggravated deported illegal immigrant, according to a news release from the department..
The news release doesnt identify Chavez-Vasquez as a person of interest in the investigation into the killing of longtime rancher Robert Krentz on March 27, but a news release of this type is unusual and the Portal area is just north of where Krentz was found dead on his ranch.
Cochise County Sheriffs spokeswoman Carol Capas said he is currently only a person of interest in the burglaries but didnt dismiss the possibility that Chavez-Vasquez could provide useful information in the Krentz investigation.
It would depend on what he would be able to tell us about other burglaries or other open cases we have, she said.
As of now, there are no suspects or persons of interest in the Krentz case, she said.
Krentz was found shot and killed on his ATV on his ranch located about 25 miles northeast of Douglas in the late night of March 27. Investigators dont know who shot him but they followed a single set of tracks back to Mexico, fueling speculation that the killer was an illegal immigrant or drug smuggling scout.
During a Senate hearing on Tuesday in Washington D.C., Sheriff Larry Dever said investigators have reason to believe the shooter was a scout for a drug smuggling oranization.
At a March 29 press conference, Sheriff Larry Dever said here was another incident within 24 hours of the shooting that could be connected involving a gun, but he would not elaborate.
Anyone with information about Chavez-Vasquez is asked to call the Cochise County Sheriffs Office at 520-432-9500 or 1-800-362-0812.

Clean cut kinda guy. Guilty. He will only be extradited with the promise of no death penalty.
All the Fox Panel was wringing their hands in despair about AZ’s new anti-illegal immigation law tonight, calling it draconian.
There must be tremendous pressure to find a suspect in this case. I hope they have the guy, he looks like one mean hombre.
Just the kind of individual that we need as a citizen. We don’t have enough criminals already here. /s
Well, McCain did admit that he was committing "generational theft."
"We need to sit down as Americans
and recognize these are Gods children as well.
And they need some protection under the law;
they need some of our love and compassion."
U.S. SEN. JOHN MCCAIN, 28 NOV. 2007
"There are jobs that Americans will not do,
so we have to make it possible for someone to come
to this country to do a job that an American wont do
and then go back to the country from where they came."
U.S. SEN. JOHN MCCAIN, 16 OCT. 2004
As suspected.
This scum needs to be squished....with a .45.
This one dirtbag is a ‘’person of interest’’? Christ sake, the whole damn country’s filled with about 20 million ‘’persons of interest’’. They’re called “ILLEGAL ALIENS””!!
I’m surprised there’s not a B.O.L.O. out on him.
That’s painful to read.
Portal, Arizona, is the site of a biology research station that attracts people from all around the United States. The cabins can be rented to tourists who want to do some birding or hiking in the Chiricahua Mountains. Unfortunately, tourism is down, and the economy is not to blame. There are many wonderful sites that Arizonans won’t visit because of the presence of illegals and illegal activity.
Ping!
Whether or not this man murdered Rob Krentz I was told yesterday this man has been in and out of the system on the border for at least the past 5 Yes FIVE YEARS!!! Maybe longer depending on whether or not all of his alias’ have been figured out at this point. He has been in and out of immigration and LEO custody in this country and keeps coming back. What is really crazy is how many more there are with the same story. We really have to secure this border and say NO to any sort of amnesty.

Our kinda guy. Give him amnesty!
