DULLES, Va. -- It's pretty common to hear about an airline losing your luggage, but what about your dog? A Norwegian military dog is missing on the grounds of Dulles International Airport.
"The airline called me to the gate and told me my dog had escaped," Gunn Anita Fossli, a platoon commander for the Norwegian Armed Forces Military Police, tells WTOP.
The 20-month-old Doberman was crated, but somehow ended up outside of the travel box and on the tarmac of an Iberian Airlines flight Wednesday night.
Airport personnel were unable to capture Qondor (pronounced condor) and then the fog rolled in and the search was called off.
Qondor is one of two dogs Fossli brought to the U.S. for additional training. Qondor, a black and tan dog, is being trained to become a bomb dog.
"He's a patrol dog in the Armed Forces. His main job is to be a scout for military patrols. He does bite work," Fossli syas.
For Fossli, it's a frustrating situation. She's been unable to help with the search because the airport said it didn't have the personnel needed to escort her.
She thinks Qondor is probably "traumatized" after having been outside all night.
Rob Yingling, spokesman for the Metropolitan Airports Authority, says airport personnel will meet with Fossli Thursday morning.
Yingling says the search for the dog won't be easy.
"It's a daunting task. We have over 12,000 acres at Dulles. Much of that land is undeveloped," Yingling says.
"The 12,000 acres is surrounded by a perimeter fence."
Who has the doggie ping list?
Did they check the food court?

Man bites dog?
LOL
The dog probably wouldn’t touch the food there.
Norway has a military?
Who knew.
Who has the doggie ping list?
Poor dog. Hope he is found safe and sound.
Lots of trees....................
Spike Come Home!
I was kidding. However, the Germans took Norway fairly quickly during WWII I believe.
I love military working dogs— dogs with cool jobs.
They should set out a plate of meatloaf and gravy on the tarmac. Let the handler stand a post nearby. He’ll find it.
Thread bump.
