As a former Scout, a dad to a Life Scout working towards Eagle and a current Scout Leader in CA, I don’t want anything from the CA legislature, especially their “congratulations”.

I don’t need, nor do I want or seek their affirmation of anything related to Scouting. I do it because I know how important it is and because I believe in it.

I refuse to let them change my vocabulary. Therefore they remain LIBERALS to me. I know it may sound nitpicky but this is exactly how they effected a 40-year coup of our country: one little baby step at a time.

..."quoting lawmakers who asked, "Should the Legislature congratulate the Boy Scouts of America on the anniversary of the granting of its federal congressional charter despite the fact that this organization steadfastly continues to discriminate against individuals because of their sexual orientation or religious views?"

They do not descriminate against anyone....but they DO uphold their own personal and Supreme Court approved private organizational beliefs. Get over it.

"Not allowing atheists into Scouts defies both American and Scouting values. It teaches kids to hate and to think of atheists as lesser people," lawmakers wrote. "It teaches them to fear differences rather than understand them."

Wrong again. They do not teach hate, their teachings do promote integrity, respect honor and obedience which are clearly defined in their publications. Read and learn and get over it.

The analysis, under Assemblyman Mike Feuer as chairman, also cited the "compelling stories of hurt and pain that this longstanding policy has caused individuals who are otherwise deeply committed to the values of and participation in this longstanding institution."

Any pain felt by individuals is the result of their own personal and private beliefs, which they are entitled to, just as the Boy Scouts of America are. The Boy Scouts of America are deeple committed to their values and welcome those who are willing to do the same. Those who have differnt values and principles are free to pursue their own personal lifestyles and beliefs in whatsoever manner it pleases them. So...PAH-LEEZE get--over--it!

Your statement is quite succinct and extremely accurate.

Regarding homosexuality, advocates rely for foundational credibility on the 1973 decision by the American Psychological Association (APA) to remove homosexuality from its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM). Removal responded to a two year campaign Newsweek described as ongoing disruptive, chaotic attacks on psychiatrists and physiologists. Yet at this annual meeting and throughout this period of disruptive attacks, no papers were presented refuting any research previously done. Eventually a third of APA’s 17,000 plus membership voted for removal. The under-voting and public attacks support the understanding that the decision came through intimidation, and not as a result of scientific reasoning. Now rather than undergoing the mental stress and discipline of research, an interest group could publicly market their claim and tailor the DSM to fit their agenda.

After this mercurial, but unsubstantiated, decision a task force was established to ensure perpetual sanctity for this APA action. No papers would again arise to confirm the extensive prior research substantiating 7 of 10 homosexuals could walk away from the lifestyle forever. This new task force would set standards for peer review of articles to ensure appropriate flexibility in design definitions, outcomes, and analytical models. Acceptable pre-ordained theses would compile selected human data points, using selected questions and behaviors, and arrive at pre-approved incites.

Psychology and Psychiatry have always had a tenuous hold on claims they were sciences with the standing of Chemistry and Physics. On the scale of intellectual rigor, their research more often resembles oral history, and seldom, if ever, approaches the determinism found in a Chemistry laboratory.

The developments in statistics should have enabled them to a least determine there is a marginal or significant propensity for a particular disorder. Careful studies could have identified and graded methods of treatment. Given persistence in searching for correct methods of analysis, even accumulated episodic events could be sifted for transformation into valid information. Research would have proceeded more slowly and conclusions would have been less intuitive, but more stable. The disciplines would more often have adhered to the medical principle of “first of all, do no harm”. Responsible research should also acknowledge those pesky humans, who in spite of their genetics and upbringing, decide to live positive lives without APA professional help.

Instead, Psychology and Psychiatry have chosen to abandon all pretense of scientific rigor in exchange for popular societal and political acclaim. The barriers erected to meaningful research about homosexuality remind me of Genesis 3:23-24. In these verses the Lord God banished humanity from the Garden of Eden and placed an angel in the Garden to keep humanity away forever. By their actions, Psychology and Psychiatry appear content within their own Garden of Eden. They seem to consider the accoutrements of a religion to be more attractive than those of a science.

Firstly, psychology and psychiatry cannot qualify as science. There is only one physics, one chemistry and one biology. Those are sciences. Psychology/psychiatry are all over the place bouncing across "cures" and methods so much that you cannot track them clearly.

Secondly, if you can stand it: This American Life: How Homosexuality was dropped from the APA DSM

It is a great education into the non-science of the decision. It is literally a decision based on emotional and political nonsense. BTW Wikipedia is a politicized source on homosexuality.

You hit the nail on the head, and most people are ostriches hiding from the reality of this statement. All true sciences are cumulative; they largely build on the earlier discoveries and bank of empirical knowledge gleaned by other scientists to varying degrees, and new scientific discoveries don't completely invalidate earlier discoveries, but either build on them or reveal them in a different light.

Psychology/psychiatry do none of this; it's history is that of one non-scientific maverick trying to outdo his colleagues in unfounded outrageous conjecture - often completely contradicting and undoing an earlier "discovery." Even today, in the "Age of Scientific Discovery" psychology is a hodge-podge smorgasbord of nebulous, unpracticeable theories that ultimately help no one but the "doctor" who continues to get rich off the perpetual state of his "patient" (victim.)

Dear California lawmakers:

You people are loons. You are thieves. You are whores to voters who also want to be thieves. You are Communists.

You have run your state into the ground. You have made it a desert for anyone wishing to do business, which, by the way, has become your largest export. You do all this in exchange for staying at your do-nothing, produce-nothing, be-accountable-to-no-one cushy jobs. You are worse than useless — you are a detriment to those whom you claim to serve. There is no bigger lie than to call you “public servants”.

If you did what you do because you wanted people to be freeloaders, you would at least deserve to be described as believing in something. You do not even deserve that — you believe in nothing more than keeping your jobs. You steal from the productive and give to freeloaders. It matters not what their motivations are — feeling good about themselves, racial unity in response to a perceived victimization, or merely sloth. Despoiling your state is reprehensible, but doing so for such amoral and crass motivations damns you more than anything ever could.

You may rest assured that I, for one, will never move to your state and I will do my utmost to convince the productive to leave it. You are parasites acting in the service of leeches. You deserve to starve, to wither, to atrophy, to disappear. If I could boycott your state I would. As it stands I will do my utmost to shun you and anything that benefits you.

“Should the Legislature congratulate the Boy Scouts of America on the anniversary of the granting of its federal congressional charter despite the fact that this organization steadfastly continues to discriminate against individuals because of their sexual orientation or religious views?”

It appears that the Boy Scouts aren’t the only group that “discriminates”:

SEATTLE — Three bisexual men from the San Francisco area have filed a lawsuit claiming they were discriminated against during the Gay Softball World Series in the Seattle area two years ago.

The Seattle Times reports that the men filed the federal complaint Tuesday against the softball tournament’s organizer, the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance. It alleges that after another team complained, the alliance ruled the three men were “nongay,” and took away the team’s second-place finish.

An attorney for the alliance says the three plaintiffs were not discriminated against illegally and the alliance is a private organization that can determine its membership.

After the1900’s when the Progressives were soundly rejected by the American people, they changes their name to Liberals. Now that they have gain a respectable amount of power, Hilary Clinton, President Obama and others have reclaimed the title of Progressives. They have a cancerous agenda. They have effectively emasculated the Conservative Democrats left on the House and Senate. I still stick to my belief that Progressives, Republican and Democrat, are a terminal cancer for this Republic. I do however still respect conservative Democrats.

I hadn’t noticed. Even if I had, we’re all allowed a error now and again.

It was a brilliant, informative post Mike. I knew that sodomite Frank Kameny and associates had been responsible for the APA’s decision through coercion, but I didn’t know the specific details until I read your post.

The post is my original writing. My specific interest in this subject originates with taking a 500 level statistics course for my Finance MBA at the University of Oregon during 1973 and 1974. Because of that course, I could particularly join in the lament over this woefully unsupported decision expressed by a Psychology professor, who published text books including the subject of homosexuality. I could in general join his lament, because of training in the classic scientific method as part of my undergraduate Chemistry major. I checked my memory with the link at the end of this comment. Here is a copy corrected for my mistake.

Regarding homosexuality, advocates rely for foundational credibility on the 1973 decision by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) to remove homosexuality from its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM).
