You are somewhat correct. Last year I basically strategized around the lists. I also saved JJ mostly for the chase. I got very lucky on a couple of rain shortened and car-nage filled races. My timing was also spot on with Juablo, Smoke and Ambrose, which allowed me to ride them hard during their streaks and profit nicely. This year however, I have no plan (except to possibly save JJ for the chase) so I've been laying off the AAA drivers since I have no idea whatever of what's happening yet this season.

The Saturday race snuck up on me. Will have to adjust the work schedule and menu accordingly.

Temp is only in the high 40s today but I thought I glimpsed my first hummingbird of the season this AM, so before lunch I made up a batch of “food” and put out the feeders. Sure enough, I just saw three males battling at one of them.

We leave a feeder out almost all year as the Annas hummingbird winters over here. In addition to the Annas we have Allans and Rufus dive bombers but not in great numbers like you folks in the flyway...

I’ve never seen anything but Ruby Throated around here. Usually, I’ll see one hovering and staring at the hook I hang the feeder from when they first arrive. That’s my signal to get the feeders out. This morning though, I thought I saw one flitting about as I worked a flower bed. I leave them up until Thanksgiving......usually see one or two stragglers after Oct.
